The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office is recruiting for the position of Investigative Technician (Extra-Help). Responsibilities include assisting in routine investigative tasks, and serving routine criminal subpoenas and welfare fraud documents.
Note: Temporary (extra-help) employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked, are not entitled to benefits, do no obtain permanent status, and serve at the will of the department head. Although the current vacancies are extra-help, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill permanent positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.
As a condition of employment, candidates may be required to undergo and pass a thorough and detailed personal background investigation. These investigations include employment/credit histories, verification of education, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified.
This classification is in MEDICAL GROUP II – Moderate Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require moderate physical effort using arms, legs, back, and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) 10-25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds. Generally, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved.

Investigative Technician applicants must qualify under one (1) of the options listed below:
OPTION 1:
Experience: Two (2) years of full time, paid work experience performing one or more of the following: conducting investigative interviews and preparing investigative reports; processing and serving subpoenas and other legal documents; locating and tracking evasive and/or difficult subjects; and/or evidence collection and preservation. OPTION 2:
Education: Fifteen (15) semester units of coursework in administration of justice or criminology that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system.
Experience: One (1) year of full time, paid work experience performing one or more of the following: conducting investigative interviews and preparing investigative reports; processing and serving subpoenas and other legal documents; locating and tracking evasive and/or difficult subjects; and/or evidence collection and preservation. Your application must clearly identify how you meet the requirements as listed above with a detailed description of relevant duties or your application will not be accepted.
OPTION 3:
Education: Completion of thirty (30) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system including at least fifteen (15) semester units of coursework in administration of justice or criminology.
OPTION 4:
Education: Valid certificate of completion of a Basic Police Academy certified by the State of California, Department of Justice, and the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
License: Possession of a valid class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent.
