Education: Possession of a United States’ high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Age: Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
License: Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent. Incumbents may be required to obtain a valid Class “B” driver’s license, or equivalent.
Other: Under California Penal Code Section 831.5, the Correctional Officer I classification is defined as a public officer. Therefore, candidates must be able to meet all pre-employment as well as ongoing public officer status requirements pursuant to federal, state and local legislation.
Note: Incumbents must successfully complete the training requirements mandated by California Penal Code Section 831.5 (c) prior to completion of the one (1) year probationary period

The BSCC Selection Exam for Local Corrections is a newly developed, statewide examination in use by California agencies for the selection of entry-level Adult Corrections Officer (ACO), Juvenile Corrections Officer (JCO), and Probation Officer (PO), effective August 17, 2020. Applicants who have taken the previous version of this exam (BSCC Correctional Officer) are unable to transfer test scores, as the new exam version contains updated content and revised scoring criteria.
Applicants who have taken the new exam either with Fresno or another county after the effective date of August 17, 2020, may submit their results by the filing deadline in lieu of taking the exam again.
