Coney Island Prep Hiring for 6th Grade Math Teacher Job at Brooklyn, NY Full Time

What is the Role?

Coney Island Prep is looking for a 6th grade Math Teacher to join us for the 2022-2023 school year. Located in Coney Island proper, our middle school was founded in 2009 and operates grades sixth through eighth grade. Teachers work side by side with the other members of their content team to internalize engaging lessons from research-based, standards aligned, curriculum including Illustrative and Zearn for math. These curricula aim to serve as windows and mirrors for our students to help them understand more about the world and themselves. Our teachers assume a high level of personal responsibility for the progress of all students.

What is it like to teach with us? Teachers at the middle school teach one grade for about three and a half hours each day. This allows teachers to develop a smaller number of high quality lessons than if they were teaching multiple grades and subjects. In the remaining time, teachers have roughly three hours of time to prepare lessons, grade papers, and communicate with families. At least once per week, teachers along with their coach meet together for 60 minutes to internalize and practice an upcoming lesson or to review the data from a previous lesson. Teachers collaborate regularly to share in completing these responsibilities. Teachers also provide about 90 minutes of community contributions per day such as supervising lunch and dismissal duties.

What You’ll Be Asked To Do

• Internalize standards-aligned curriculum and content
• On a daily basis, teach academically rigorous and culturally relevant lesson plans, materials, and assessments, and differentiate as needed
• Communicate effectively with all scholars, their families, and staff
• Commit to a culture of consistently implementing school-wide systems, structures, and procedures
• Eradicate the effects of racism, poverty and other forms of oppression in our school community by making resources, opportunities, support systems, and classrooms equitable and accessible for all our stakeholders.
• Analyze and action plan using instructional and culture data to improve teaching practice and strengthen student outcomes
• Be proactive in creating a positive, structured, results-oriented and fun learning environment that supports the needs of students with various abilities and experiences
• Participate in school community responsibilities such as lunch supervision, dismissal duties, daily homeroom, bi-weekly advisory groups, weekly content team data meetings, professional development, lesson internalization and practice, and/or weekly grade team meetings

Coney Island Prep is a college preparatory public charter school in Brooklyn, New York. Benefits and Compensation

• Lead teachers at Coney Island Prep are provided with salaries that are highly competitive, set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s years of teaching experience in a K-12 school environment. The salary range for this role is from $67,500-$92,500.
