Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.
The Traffic & Bicycle Education and Enforcement Program Unit (TBEEP) is a unit of the Colorado State University Police Department. TBEEP is responsible for educating bicyclists, pedestrians, skateboarders and motor vehicle operators of the rules of the road in regards to the operations on the CSU campus. TBEEP is also tasked with enforcing rules, regulations, ordinances and laws in efforts to provide a safe traffic environment for all modes of traffic to coexist. The TBEEP Unit also provides other services for the CSU campus such lock cuts, impounding bicycles, bicycle registration, weapons storage and lost and found.
Position Summary
This position will provide technical and professional support to the Associate Director of Support Services and the Colorado State University Police Department by applying knowledge of basic principles, rules, regulations, policies, laws and objectives specific to the Traffic & Bicycle Education and Enforcement Program Unit in order to resolve problems, answer questions, and provide information, critical documents, policies and advise others on technical issues as needed.
This position will organize and establish work processes to achieve better efficiency and implementation of guidelines and objectives prescribed by the Associate Director of Support Services and CSU PD as needed; serve as a liaison between the Associate Director of Support Services other CSUPD work units, and external constituencies including community, business and professional organizations.
This position will need to meet challenging deadlines; prepare drafts on a variety of essential topics; prepare and review policies in coordination with departments outside of the work unit; coordinate events put on by the CSU PD.
The TBEEP Coordinator should have the demonstrated ability to take initiative, be flexible and thrive in a fast paced environment. The TBEEP Coordinator should have a strong work ethic, the demonstrated ability to be self-directed and willingness to work additional hours as needed are a must. Also required are excellent interpersonal skills with strong orientation toward collaboration, service, teamwork, and consensus-building; excellent judgment and organization skills. Must be extremely detail oriented and capable of producing work of the highest quality and accuracy and exhibit an exceptionally high level of professional discretion and confidentiality. Must be computer literate with programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access.
In addition to the aforementioned duties, the TBEEP Coordinator is responsible for managing the daily operations of TBEEP. These duties include training CSU employees, impounding abandon bicycles, developing and implementing programs to encourage bicycle use on and off campus, coordinate cyclists input to improve the cycling environment here at CSU and the City of Fort Collins, promote bicycle and traffic safety, coordinate campus bicycle-related changes, oversee campus bicycle registration program, developing and maintaining campus bicycle programs and make budgeting decisions on the operations of the TBEEP.
