Position Summary
The Assistant Dean of Students will strengthen our unit mission by responding to
student needs, providing strategic advocacy, managing day-to-day operations, and serving as a designee for the Dean of Students. Reporting
directly to the Dean of Students, this position partners with the Dean of Students to complete divisional and departmental projects,
strategic planning, assessment, and new initiatives. The Assistant Dean works collaboratively with the Dean of Students and all
administrative departments including Academic Enrichment, Care Support Services, Center for Student Diversity, Community Values &
Restorative Practices, Student Accessibility Services, Student Services, and the Haven. In addition, the Assistant Dean will participate in
the Dean-On-Call rotation.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in
Student Affairs administration or related field and demonstrated full-time professional experience in higher education or student services
with a record of success in leading and managing projects. The Assistant Dean of Students will foster a welcoming and inclusive environment
for students and will work collaboratively with staff and faculty. The candidate should have a demonstrated record of programming and
presentation skills and the capability to resolve high-level issues and concerns. Necessary skills include superior oral, written,
quantitative, and interpersonal communication; problem solving, and report writing; the capacity to work within a diverse setting with
faculty, university constituencies, students, and their families; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team to develop and
maintain productive, collegial working relationships. The Assistant Dean must possess supervisory experience including advising,
goal-setting, assessment, and performance reviews and demonstrated solid technical skills and the ability to maximize technology resources.
Preferred qualifications include experience working with student information databases and data analysis software, development and
presentation of information to a broad range of audiences, and experience working with faculty and community stakeholders.
