Instructor of Mathematics
Position Type:
Instructor
School/Area:
School of Sciences and Mathematics
Department:

Position Description:
The College of Charleston Department of Mathematics invites applicants for an Instructor position beginning August 2024. Applicants must possess either a Master’s degree or a Ph.D. in a mathematical science, or alternatively a Ph.D. in a related field (such as Data Science, Mathematical Physics, or Statistical Physics) with at least eighteen hours of graduate-level mathematics by the employment start date. Duties primarily include 12 hours per semester teaching introductory mathematics courses, pre-calculus and/or calculus, and courses in the major depending upon qualifications. Instructors advise students, engage in professional development related to pedagogies that increase success in these courses, serve on department committees, and participate in college-level service. Since teaching is the position’s primary responsibility, a record of and potential for excellence in teaching mathematics is the most important component for ranking candidates. In addition, professional development and service are responsibilities of the position so potential in these areas factors into a candidate’s ranking.
