Job Purpose:
Serves as working Assistant Maintenance Shop Supervisor. Responsible for accomplishing heavy workload in the area of general maintenance, moving and special event preparation. Assists with supervision of crew leaders and all general maintenance trades specialists in the Maintenance Shop. Assists with the evaluation of the specific needs of each job, places orders for materials and tracks cost. Determines work order priority & schedules work to be completed. Performs a variety of administrative tasks and utilizes a computer to access work orders via Maintenance Direct.
Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma and 2 years experience in maintenance or construction. Supervisory experience preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have ability to supervise work crews and prioritize work orders. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to direct and work productively as part of a team. Must have strong computer skills and can use the computer for administrative tasks (email, work order processing, etc.). Must be able to follow oral & written instructions. Must have a valid S.C. driver’s license as the employee will be required to drive state vehicles to transport equipment and/or personnel when needed. Must have knowledge & ability to use & maintain tools & equipment used in building maintenance/construction, painting & carpentry. Must have knowledge of safety practices & techniques, methods & standard practices associated with construction/general maintenance. Experience in using web-based Maintenance Direct work order system preferred.
Additional Comments Regarding Position:
Required to work on weekends and after normal working hours, as needed, to assist with coordinating Physical Plant special events. Some overtime work and call back is required. Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Must be able to perform the duties as described. May be required to be on campus prior to and immediately following all emergencies such as hurricanes, floods, etc.

1. Collaborates with supervisor to plan, assign work, & supervise maintenance crew leaders & trade specialists. Assists supervisor with inspection of work in progress and upon completion to ensure adherence to instructions & specifications. Coordinates with supervisor & Deputy Director regarding timely completion of work orders & duties assigned to Maintenance Shop. Assumes role of Shop supervisor in his/her absence. 5. Must be knowledgeable in & enforce OSHA regulations pertaining to trade. Inspects work in progress to ensure trades specialists are following proper maintenance & safety procedures. Responsible for ensuring that furniture, floors, walls, & surrounding work area is protected from dust & debris while work is being performed. Ensures all jobsites are thoroughly cleaned up when work has been completed.
