Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Musicology
The Colby College Department of Music invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in Musicology to begin on September 1, 2024. We are seeking a dynamic teacher and scholar who specializes in African-American/African diaspora musics and whose course offerings will complement those of the existing department. The successful candidate will join a small, active, and highly collaborative department and will have a teaching load of 4.5 courses (alternating between 4 and 5 courses every other year) that will include Introduction to Music, courses counting toward our Music History requirement, and electives open to both majors and non-majors. Additional courses may include: a first-year writing seminar, and/or an applied/hybrid course that engages the candidate’s specialization.
As a whole, the successful candidate will have a vision for Musicology courses that will generate excitement among music majors and minors and appeal to students across a diverse liberal arts campus. The candidate will also maintain a strong research trajectory in their field(s) of specialization. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research and teaching, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the campus community, particularly those with a record of previous college teaching. Preference will be given to candidates holding the Ph.D. at the time of appointment. Additional expertise in music and film or music and the stage is especially welcome.
To apply, please submit applications through Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/134168. Include: 1) a cover letter outlining interests and specific qualifications for the position as well your engagement with equitable and inclusive teaching; 2) CV; 3) three confidential letters of recommendation; 4) ideas for 3 possible course offerings, with a brief description of each class. A statement of teaching philosophy and a representative example of recent scholarship may be requested further into the review process.
