Reports to: Vice President of Student Services
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, the Director of Financial Aid has
responsibility for creating a student-focused experience within the Office of Financial Aid.
This individual must be a leader in
contributing to student satisfaction through the delivery of excellent customer service in all aspects of the administration of financial
aid and student employment (e.g. work-study) services. Knowledge and understanding or the ability to learn applicable federal and state
regulations and regulations regarding administering financial aid for an NCAA Division II program are required. The Director will have an
unwavering dedication to compliance and financial aid stewardship. This position requires teamwork, supervision, and personal interaction
that cannot be had in a home office, therefore, regular and predictable on-site attendance is a job requirement. This position may require
flexible work hours on occasion.
Essential JobFunctions
Create a collaborative approach to the use of financial resources in
support of students and student-athletes and ensure timely and effective awarding of all types of student aid.
Encourage teamwork
and creative problem solving within and outside of the department to offer financial aid strategies within the framework of federal and
state regulations that are consistent with the enrollment management objectives of the University and by administering financial aid,
scholarships, and student employment programs that support the student recruitment and retention plan.
Ensure professional and
team development around the financial aid experience and the Office’s role in student accounts.
Ensure that students and parents
are well informed about the availability of financial aid including written materials, personal outreach, and workshops. Proactively educate
student borrowers on matters related to financial aid including how to manage their debt and repay any loans.
Manage and
supervise all financial aid processes for awarding student loans, grants, and scholarship packages.
Develop and monitor the
Financial Aid Office budget including departmental operating expenses.
Timely development of the student cost of attendance
(individual student budgets) including tuition, books, fees, room and board, and any additional athletic or department fees.
Manage all aspects of the financial aid office’s operations, including:
Loan awarding, processing, and reconciliation
Entrance
and exit counseling
Return to Title IV
Satisfactory academic progress
Work-study aid
Student accrual hoursFederal and
state expenditures.
Interpret and apply federal laws and regulations; college policies and regulations; and state regulations
relating to the delivery of student financial assistance. Monitor and incorporate regulatory changes, evaluate the impact on the University
of such changes, communicate the impact to relevant departments and individuals, and coordinate the University’s response to ensure
compliance. Oversee all administrative functions of the Financial Aid Office by supervising and evaluating all full-time and part-time
employees.
Adhere to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and South Atlantic Conference (SAC) rules regarding the
awarding of financial aid.
Ensure the institution has exemption-free financial aid audits and program reviews by keeping abreast
of and implementing all federal and state laws and regulations that pertain to the programs administered by the financial aid office,
including calculating refunds and repayments for all students in a timely manner.
Maintain the institution’s financial aid data
to ensure timely and accurate submission of required federal, state and local reports.
Utilize and maintain the current financial
aid module in the University’s student information system, and ensure that it is used effectively and that processes are developed which are
technologically up-to-date and user/student friendly.
Improve student and colleague satisfaction through delivery of excellent
customer service.Ensure timely and effective awarding of all types of student aid.Work alongside other members of the Student Services
division to ensure an environment of excellence and integrity in decision-making and actions.
Minimum Education, Skills, and
Abilities
A minimum of seven years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree.Knowledge of federal and institutional
financial aid programs
Ability to deal effectively with a diverse student body
Experience with need analysis, counseling, and
packaging aid
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to support and implement Coker’s Standards of Service
