The technician will lead support research efforts to deploy biologgers on shorebirds and seabirds and to collect biological and environmental samples to support analysis of contaminants in coastal ecosystems. The technician will also manage data streams, maintain equipment and supplies, participate in research team meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
40% – Essential – Deploy biologgers on breeding seabirds and shorebirds, and collect biological samples from captured adults and breeding sites including but not limited to feathers, blood, and eggs.
30% – Essential – Collect environmental samples for subsequent analysis of contaminants including but not limited to plankton, water, sediment, prey, and vegetation.
20% – Essential – Manage, store, and ship environmental samples; manage and maintain field supplies and equipment, including vehicle and motorboat.
10% – Essential – Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education – Bachelor’s Degree – biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area and experience in fish, wildlife or marine resource management or research programs. A master’s degree in biology, chemistry or wildlife management may be substituted for the required work experience.
Work Experience 1+ years – field season supporting field research efforts that includes handling animals, collection of data, and maintaining field equipment and field supplies.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Experience using and maintaining motorized water craft.
Licenses – Drivers License Class D normal RESPONSIBILITIES

WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hours: 37.5; Expected Salary Range ($19 – $20)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate¿s previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson¿s compensation guidelines.

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
