Provides advanced technical consulting on physical network and telecommunications infrastructure to facilities design architects, engineers, and project managers. Maintains and updates technical design standards. Performs other duties as assigned. Holds and maintains at least a BICSI RCCD credential. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
40% – Essential – Network Physical Infrastructure Management: Directs/Coordinates the planning and development of fiber optic and cable pathways and fiber optic and cabling infrastructure in accordance with current industry standards to ensure network physical infrastructure will perform at optimal levels. Reads blueprints. Meets with project managers. Operates, uses, and interprets diagnostic tools such as optical time delay reflectometer. Follow BICSI standards.
20% – Essential – Cabling and Fiber Optic Infrastructure Management: Designs the most efficient and cost effective cabling and fiber optic infrastructure solutions in support of Clemson University’s mission and goals. Applies technical knowledge and experience to devise solutions based on current industry standards. Create, maintain, and update service contracts with fiber/cabling contractors, network documentation, and diagrams.
20% – Essential – Advising and Collaboration: Advises management on the most strategic uses of fiber-optic and other cabling technology to support Clemson University activities. Meets and maintains relationships with Facilities personnel, network engineers, State Regulatory Officials, contractors, installers and vendors.
10% – Essential – Upgrade and Enhancement Management: Researches and recommends upgrades and enhancements of network systems to management to keep network infrastructure running at the most relevant and up-to-date standards. Holds and maintains at least a BICSI Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) credential.
10% – Essential – Communication and Representation: Maintains good working relationships with officials from across the University, as well as contractors, installers, and vendors to ensure stability of Clemson University’s physical network infrastructure. Serves as point-of-contact for network infrastructure questions and issues in construction and maintenance situations. Maintains open communications with management, Facilities personnel, and other university officials during projects.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education – A bachelor’s degree in information technology systems, computer science, or related field and experience in information technology systems or related area. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Work Experience: 6+ years of experience in cabling and distribution design. 6+ years of experience as a Registered Communication Distribution Designer in a higher education environment.
BICSI Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD) credential.
Degree- Information/engineering technology or related field.
