Serves to assist the Director and the Principle Investigator of the Consortium of Appalachian Fire Managers and Scientists, a knowledge exchange organization funded by the Interagency Joint Fire Science Program and administered by the US Forest Service. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
25% – Essential – Website Design and Development: Uses Wix and other content management platforms to develop the CAFMS website and related sites and update pages on a regular basis. Managing additions to the online research database, blog entries, and events calendar on a regular basis. Editing videos and presentation recordings as needed. Maintains a contact list of members and distributes information through newsletter platforms (e.g., MailChimp or Wix). Contributes to a quarterly newsletter and other occasional updates.
25% – Essential – Science Delivery: Uses fact sheets, publications, and other formats to summarize research articles in lay terminology. Responds to research requests and coordinates with working groups and partner organizations to develop key messages and communications strategies on a regular basis. Plans and organizes webinars and other virtual formats for science delivery.
25% – Essential – Conferences and Workshops: Assists the director in planning and executing meetings throughout the Appalachian region. Represents the Consortium as a presenter, exhibitor, or attendee to inform professional audience of CAFMS activities and goals. Supports virtual/hybrid events through project management, technology, registration, and other support. Provides field tours of research and demonstration sites to inform stakeholders about ongoing and new fire management and research throughout the Appalachians. Uses graphic design to produce interpretive signs for field sites.
20% – Essential – Communication/ Public Information: Develops a social media strategy to reach stakeholders through a variety of outlets. Creates and publishes content on a regular basis. Monitors analytics for social media accounts and website. Manages regional communications team and develops materials for public communication. Uses graphic design to produce interpretive signs for field sites.
5% – Essential – Works with Director and Principal Investigator on other duties as needed. Develops other projects independently, but with approval form PI and Director, as needed, to support CAFMS mission and activities.

Education – Bachelor’s Degree
