Clemson University’s Application Services Team is looking for an IT Data Architect & Data Analyst to fulfill the following duties:
JOB DUTIES:
30% – Essential – System Configuration and Maintenance:
Serves as Subject Matter Expert. Applies comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts and best practices throughout the system configuration and design process. Understands and reviews all data flows and pipelines from inception and acquisition to resting points and consumption. Works closely with the system administrator to architect, deploy and manage data management and data warehousing systems software and related programs. Ensure involvement in the analysis and review process of large new systems and applications (ERP, CRM, HR), and how these will impact the movement and integration of data into the current data ecosystem. Plans architecture and infrastructure to support data management processes and procedures. Works closely with the implementation partner and the vendor to gain system knowledge/expertise. Aligns system with data privacy and security policies and classifications. Responsible for notifying and coordinating with the vendors and users on upgrades, system patches, quarterly releases. Responsible for working with the vendor on configuration changes to ensure security, stability, integrity, and efficient operations of the business systems.
30% – Essential – Data Modeling and Translation:
Can Develop and Optimize Data Models and ensures the team develops the logical data models and documents the models in Entity-Relationship Diagrams (ERD) or dimensional models according to company specifications and standards. Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document requirements and to design, develop, and test solutions to meet business identified needs; these needs include the analysis of data sets, application of appropriate data extraction and data preparation techniques, and workflow enhancements. Ensures participation of Business Analysts, Data Integration Developers and the Solution Architect to translate business requirements into a logical data model. Perform detailed data analysis (i.e. determine the structure, content, and quality of the data through examination of source systems and data samples). Work with large data sets from both within and external to Clemson University and leads advanced analytical tasks, such as data conversions, ETL, filtering, fusion, aggregations, and data mining. Reviews and analyzes the impact of changes to data structures in logical data models prior to allowing DBAs or Data Modelers to make physical changes. Collaborates with data stewards and analyst specialists/business analysts/strategic data managers in other University offices that impact or are involved in data governance, data management (master data management, data dictionary, data catalog, etc.), and reporting.
20% – Essential – Data Validation and Management:
Understand existing source systems data transfer methodologies and technology to assess support and delivery of information through the data management platform, data warehouse, or data service layers. Ensures alignment of Data and Data Management strategies to the business tactical and strategic needs, plans and drivers and can support the AI and ML modeling and analysis needs of business stakeholders. Oversee mapping on data sources, data movement, and reporting, with the goal of ensuring data quality. Develop key components as needed to create testing criteria to guarantee the performance of data architecture. Document the data architecture and environment to maintain a current and accurate view of the larger data picture. Work with the teams that manage systems of record utilized across the organization and construct methods and processes to validate, manage, store, analyze, utilize, and present data. Establish processes for identification, collection, and use of metadata; take steps to assure metadata accuracy. Supports internal data needs related to monitoring for risks, compliance with policies, and similar tasks.
10% – Essential – Project and Major Initiative Support:
Create and maintain detailed specifications, data mapping, and technical documentation for projects. Support data flow processes, end-to-end for projects and major initiatives including troubleshooting of data issues through the process of information transfer, data model design, access to the information, querying of data and performance/speed resulting from data issues. Lead projects independently, develop, and implement large scale data management and reporting solutions with minimal supervision. Focus on improving efficiency through application of data analytics tools and techniques. Provide expertise regarding business and data requirements for initial concepts and prototypes for customer feedback. Develop tactical and strategic roadmaps that address business challenges and requirements while managing technology debt and while preparing to support unexpected business analytics and reporting needs. Enforce best practices to facilitate optimized software development, ETL transfer of information, data modeling and data design.
10% – Essential – Consultation and Communication:
Works with any Data Governance and Data Governance bodies within the organization to ensure architecture designs accommodate any applicable policies and processes. Works with business stakeholders to better understand key business data challenges and pain points and review and prioritize business use cases. Provides structure, documentation and consultation to the user and subject matter expert communities on the enterprise data domain and information from university data management and data warehouses. Serves as a subject matter expert in a specified area. Consults with service providers with respect to the use of supplemental staff resources. Assists customers in identifying opportunities for, and implementation of, business process redesign to maximize the value of application software.. Analyze business critical data and recommends improvements. Identifies changes and trends that enhance and accelerate adoption of technology and related techniques to support data governance, data management, and associated business applications.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education – Bachelor’s Degree in related information technology or related field
Work Experience – Experience in business administration, computer science, mathematics, engineering, management information science, networking-telecommunications, and/or data processing. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
