The Exhibits and Artifacts Curator serves as the curator of artifacts and special collections for Clemson University. Coordinates the development and implementation of exhibits for Special Collections and Archives, both physical and virtual. Develops and maintains systems for the description and control of collections through database management, and processes collections of artifacts from donors. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
40% – Essential – Maintains the content management system to document the university’s artifact collection. Processes new donations of artifacts and coordinates with other departments and entities regarding university artifacts. Participates in events highlighting university artifacts, and leads presentations regarding university artifacts as needed.
25% – Essential – Develops physical and virtual exhibits for Special Collections and Archives. Coordinates scheduling and designs exhibits. Completes installation of physical exhibits and publishes virtual exhibits. Administers loan agreements of Clemson University artifacts with external museums and other entities for exhibition purposes. Manages and maintains the social media accounts for Special Collections & Archives.
20% – Essential – Advises and educates researchers on the use of primary resources. Assists in the operation of the Reading Room by answering reference questions regarding historical, genealogical and special research projects. Answers reference queries via telephone, email, letter, and in person. Provides Archival instruction support as needed.
15% – Essential – Provides administrative support for Special Collections and Archives as needed, including the creation of workflow and procedural documents, processing collections, and stacks maintenance work.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree In history, museology or a related field and related experience.
Work Experience: 1+ years
