Job Description:
The Department of Psychology invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) to begin in August 2024. Noted for its rich history in Psychology, Clark University offers the advantages of both a distinguished research university and a small liberal arts college (see https://www.clarku.edu/departments/psychology/).
The Psychology Department has Ph.D. programs in Social, Clinical, and Developmental Psychology. We seek a social psychologist (holding a Ph.D. in Social Psychology, or adjacent field, by the time of the appointment) whose program of research relates to social issues, who considers the social and political context in their research and theorizing, and who uses multiple methods and diverse, community samples. Specifically, to complement and further build on the Psychology Department’s and the Social Psychology program’s existing strengths, the ideal candidate will work on the social psychology of social issues (e.g., criminal justice and policing, inequality and health, poverty and the environment), preferably from a critical perspective (e.g., decoloniality, intersectionality, critical race theory). Ideally, the candidate’s work has links with but is also distinct from other faculty in all three programs in the department and has links with interdisciplinary university programs (e.g., Africana Studies, Native American/Indian Studies, the Center for Gender, Race, and Area Studies, Mosakowski Institute). The candidate is expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching (especially research methods or statistics, and preferably advanced statistical techniques, such as multilevel modeling and/or structural equation modeling), research mentoring of undergraduate and doctoral students, and program, department, and university initiatives and areas of growth (e.g., graduate curriculum development, anti-racist pedagogy). Candidates should have a clear research program, excellent teaching skills, and a commitment to success in securing extramural funding.
Requirements:
Applicants should submit a cover letter, statement of research interests, statement of teaching interests, CV, three publications that they consider their best contribution to the field (this can include work under review), the names and contact information for three individuals who can provide references at a later stage of the review process, and a statement that discusses how you promote the infusion of different perspectives, personalities, concepts, and backgrounds (i.e. age, race, color, sex, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability status or capacity, religious or political preference, socio-economic status, city, state or country of origin, life challenges, and rural or urban upbringing) into scholarship, pedagogy, and campus life. Full consideration will be given to all applications received by October 9, 2023.
