Definition:
Provides prevention and intervention services to children, youth and families. Youth may be at
risk of juvenile court involvement, gang involvement and/or may be involved in risky behaviors.
Partners with the community to address the needs of children and youth by leveraging
educational opportunities and support. Provides family support to children, youth and their
families.
Principal Duties:
* Engage in community problem solving, gang response & intervention, violence
reduction, family success and youth development programming.
* Provide crisis intervention services to children and youth, both on-site and off-site.
Conduct face-to-face meetings involving children, youth, families and community
representatives. Respond to and provide outreach and coaching for school officials
needing assistance with crises related to gangs and school violence.
* Provide assessment and referral services to children, youth and their families to help
identify issues that may cause a variety of core problems. Link children, youth and
families to community resources to address these issues and keep youth out of the
juvenile justice system and gang involvement.
* Provide case management services by offering ongoing support and advocacy, tracking
progress, and providing consistent follow-up.
* Provide group facilitation and leadership groups for middle school and high school
students. Help youth strengthen their identity and cultural environment, thereby filling
the need for pro-social connectedness and belonging.
* Work with the community and a network of human service agencies to identify the most
appropriate services to meet the needs of youth and their families (Centers of Excellence
model). Bring together the resources required to address individual and family needs
including parenting skills, conflict resolution, post-secondary education coaching, mental
health and substance abuse counseling. Continue to track children, youth and their
families through the community’s various support systems, thereby ensuring
coordination of services.
* Facilitate a positive decision-making/anti-gang curriculum to St. Vrain Valley School
District students. Facilitate pre- and post-file interventions and classes.
* Facilitate Parent Education Classes
* Conduct educational presentations in the community.
* Conduct Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessments for the REWiND
program.
* Track data related to program implementation and measurements of program
effectiveness.
* Collaborate with neighborhood residents, community members, businesses leaders, city
staff and volunteers to promote the healthy development of children/youth and gang
awareness.
* Assist City staff in working with neighborhood groups to address youth-related needs
and issues.
* Facilitate post-secondary and future planning workshops tailored to support First-
Generation students and their families.
* Assist with volunteer/internship coordination and management for Children, Youth and
families by conducting intakes, application processing and trainings.
* Act as a liaison to Longmont Youth Council
Working Environment:
This position requires extensive contact and interaction with community, children, youth and
families. An essential component of the hiring process will be a criminal background screening.
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment, with travel to schools, and various
community locations, including community-based programming. Requires the ability to hear
and communicate in both verbal and written form, read and understand a variety of written
materials. Requires ability to manage stress associated with coordinating multiple concurrent
tasks and interruptions. Requires working alone, as well as frequently working closely with
others, including the public (primarily youth aged 11-19 years), business and school leaders,
community groups, co-workers, and other youth-serving professionals. Confidentiality is
required. Work requires physical and visual capabilities to operate passenger vehicles for
transporting youth to/from sponsored activities, to and from an off-site work place. Work
requires the ability to prepare monthly and quarterly program progress reports and maintain
program statistics. Work requires frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 lbs) and occasional
lifting/carrying (up to and over 50 lbs), crawling, bending/stooping, twisting, kneeling, and
squatting, exposure to noise and sun, and conflict and potential problems of a volatile nature.
Work may require frequent irregular/protracted work hours; both scheduled and unscheduled.
Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an
accredited college or university with major coursework in social science, human relations,
community development, psychology, social work or related field. Program evaluation
experience desired. Special
Qualifications: Bilingual (English/Spanish) Intermediate/Advanced
proficiency preferred. Child Adolescent Needs Strengths (CANS) Certification (training provided).
Possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s License required.
