Capitol Technology University Looking for Assistant Vice President of Finance Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Capitol Technology University, a nonprofit university located in Laurel, Maryland, seeks an Assistant Vice President of Finance who works closely with the Vice President of Finance and assists in overseeing the operations of the Business Office, to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll, general ledger, financial reporting, cash management, federal grant accounting, contract accounting, record archival, and federal reporting. The successful candidate will be an accomplished financial leader with a record of success and experience in fiscal management. He/she should also possess excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated characteristics of collaborative leadership; and qualities that will facilitate and strengthen relationships with both internal and external constituencies. The Assistant Vice President is an important university wide leadership position that is expected to function independently at a strategic level actively participating as a team member supporting the success of the university which ultimately supports the university’s focus of providing high quality industry in demand career focused education.

Required Skills / Abilities:

• Broad knowledge of higher education including academic operations, finance, funding, regulation, marketing, and risk management
• Knowledge and capability to link planning and administrative activities to the strategic orientation and direction of the university
• Experience maintaining and using an Enterprise Resource Planning solution; willingness to help team members problem-solve by active utilization of software and databases at the transactional level
• Exceptional proficiency with Excel
• Nonprofit or governmental accounting experience
• Supervisory experience
• Fully conversant with corporate and governmental accounting requirements and practices, including GAAP, FASB, GASB and effective budgeting and planning techniques
• Must be able to effectively communicate financial information, via presentations in either written or verbal formats, to a variety of audiences
• Ability to build strong relationships among all levels of the organization, including faculty, staff, students, external partners, sponsors and vendors
• Strong analytical capability and the ability to formulate effective and actionable solutions
• Strong problem-solving, organization, persuasion, and negotiation skills

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• At least 3 years of progressive financial experience that includes financial reporting, cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, accounting policy, auditing, budgeting, and forecasting
• Higher Education and/or Non-profit accounting experience preferred
• Certified Public Accounting or Certified Management Accounting certification or an advanced degree in Accounting preferred
• Experience with Jenzabar, Infomaker and ADP Systems preferred
