CHEM 440L: Protein Structure and Function for the Life Sciences Lab

The Department of Biology at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for the Master of Biotechnology program to teach CHEM 440L: Protein Structure and Function for the Life Sciences Lab on Wednesdays, from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. The course will be taught in person from August 28, 2023, to December 9, 2023.

Course Description:

Provides hands-on experience with methods in molecular biology, protein expression and purification, and protein function.

Minimum qualifications:

• Masters Degree
• Experience teaching or equivalent practical experience in Protein Structure and Function for the Life Sciences
• Communication and Presentation Skills
• Experience in Course Design (can design a well-structured syllabus, select appropriate course materials, and can incorporate fundamental tools and techniques used to study protein structure and function)
• Ability to continuously learn and adapt (commitment to staying up to date with latest research techniques and developments)
• Knowledge of Protein Structure Determination Methods including Experimental Techniques and Computational Modeling
• Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment

Preferred qualifications:

• PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, or related field, and/or equivalent industry experience
• Experience teaching or mentoring students in topics related to protein structure and function such as biochemistry, molecular biology, or structural biology
• Research experience in protein structure and function (published papers in reputable scientific journals and/or experience securing research funding)
• Experience with curriculum development
• Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience:

• Anticipated Hiring Salary: $4,530 – $5,770 base per full time month
• CSU Classification Salary: $4,530 – $11,994 base per full time month
