Community Service Specialist I
Public Safety
Salary Range: $3,120 – $4,501/Monthly
Work Schedule: Full-Time, permanent position; work hours vary; non-exempt classification.
Essential Functions: The Community Service Specialist I work under the general supervision of the Administrative Lieutenant and/or Chief of Police. The Community Service Specialist is a civilian employee who supports police administration and field operations by performing a variety of assigned tasks. The Community Service Specialist I is an unarmed, public servant who will: patrol campus on foot, bike, or vehicle; perform security assignments, administrative tasks, and related campus community service functions; assist in the physical logistics of campus special events and emergencies; occupy static post in areas such as student housing, the library, and during special events; patrol and protect the campus community from hazards such as fire, theft, vandalism, trespassing, and other crimes; assist in the enforcement of campus rules and regulations; report hazardous/dangerous conditions; open and secure campus facilities; coordinate and test campus alarm systems; provide general information and service to the public and responding when appropriate to assist students; and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and three to six months related experience would normally achieve these entry qualifications. Ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. Ability to read and write. Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn how to use applicable public safety equipment and systems (deactivating/Activating security/alarm systems). Possess excellent personal communication and customer service skills. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with campus community. Ability to use computer-based system programs, specifically, Microsoft Word and Excel. Must possess a California Driver’s License.
