Position Details:
The position supports the NEA’s strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members toward the promotion of public education by providing all aspects of NEA’s accounts payable functions including entering and reviewing vouchers, account analyses for assigned accounts, and year-end audit support for various entities within NEA’s financial operations.
POSITION SUMMARY: This position will have primary responsibility in the accounts payable functions to process, review, record, and reconcile payments, maintain vendor records/relationships, and ensure payments are recorded accurately through efficient processes for NEA’s general fund, NEA360 LLC, the NEA Advocacy Fund, and other entities as necessary. The primary focus of this position involves reviewing vouchers that have been submitted for payment, analysis of complex vouchers and payments within the accounts payable area, providing assistance to NEA personnel regarding the proper preparation of vouchers, resolving payment issues with vendors, and assisting with the month and year-end close for all business units. The incumbent will provide technical support for designated business applications. Activities may include end-user consultation, development, and conduct of training, participating in system/application design, enhancements, upgrades, and resolution of a variety of technical issues related to systems/applications.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work extended hours on some evenings and weekends. Some travel is required (10-20 overnights per year). Samples of recent work products (e.g., financial statements, spreadsheets, or presentation materials) may be required at the interview.
Selection Criteria: Tier 1 (Essential): A customer-service orientation. Excellent communication skills and impressive focus and attention to detail. Demonstrated experience in general ledger, financial statements or demonstrated experience in all aspects of accounts payable functions, including entering and reviewing vouchers, and account analyses. Demonstrated use of sound judgment for decision-making and ability to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision. Proven ability to handle confidential matters with discretion. Successful references. Tier 2 (Significant): Experience with reviewing and auditing transactions (i.e., travel and expense, fixed assets, vendor invoices, travel advances, journal vouchers, grants, and other payment requests) in accordance with policies, federal, state, and local regulations. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Proven flexibility and effectiveness in handling multiple and complex tasks simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing conditions. Skill in developing financial training and presentations using applicable software. Demonstrated effective organizational and project management skills. Experience with presentation software (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint) and productivity tools (e.g., Smartsheet, SharePoint, Teams, Zoom). Tier 3 (Desirable): Proven skill in diversified accounting, financial management operations, and complex problem resolution. A commitment to continuous improvement to streamline processes and information systems. Certified Public Accountant, Certified Accounts Payable Professional, or similar designation(s).
