General Function: A Coach provides clinical on-site coaching to in-service teachers
enrolled in the Brandeis Teacher Leader Program.
Knowledge and experience: Coaches must have considerable experience as
teachers and as a principal, department head or supervisor in a school or education system. They need to have knowledge of relevant
curriculum, instruction methods, and assessment theory and practice as well as school policy issues.
Responsibilities:
Participating in the coach orientation and meeting with teacher leaders. Meeting with teacher leaders one or more times as
needed in the summer.
Meeting teacher leaders twice a month during the school year in person or online to review progress,
discuss emergent questions & problems, analyze records of practice (e.g. video clips, protocols, meeting agendas), plan next steps, etc.
Keeping a log of interactions with each teacher leader using collaborative log.
Ensuring that teacher
leaders produce appropriate records of their leadership practice for analysis with coach and peers.
Producing formative and
summative assessments of teacher leader’s learning twice a year (December and May). Participating in coach meetings during the school year
(approximately 2 -3 times per semester) to share problems, refine role, etc.
Making at least one site visit to teacher
leader’s school including observations and meetings with relevant administrators.
