The Davey laboratory in the Department of Microbiology at Boston University School of Medicine and NEIDL seeks a research technician to assist with ongoing antiviral drug development and/or cell biology projects working with Ebola virus and Lassa virus. Opportunities exist to work with pharma industry and academic collaborators as well as leading edge cell and structural biologists. The individual will participate in novel research and when able and interested, author publications. Previous technicians have been accepted into top tier graduate programs. The specific responsibilities of this position include basic lab management and organization, setting up drug screens or cell biology assays using high throughput technology, performing antiviral testing or understanding host factor dependence, and performing research. Research tasks will include assisting others but also working independently performing a variety of cutting edge techniques, including AI directed image analysis of microscopy images, CRISPR mediated knockdown of cell genes and other molecular virology approaches. The ideal applicant is highly motivated with a strong commitment to excellence, great attention to detail, and works well independently and with others.
Required Skills
A Bachelor’s degree is required; experience with cell culture and techniques such as microscopy are preferred but not required. We are looking for a minimum 2-year commitment for this position. The individual must meet requirements for working at BSL4 with training provided and pass a background check for work with select agents. The Davey lab is committed to the career development of all members; opportunities for an independent virology or drug development research project related to high containment viruses will be available if interested.
