Job Description
The Online MBA program at the
Boston University Questrom School of Business is seeking a highly experienced administrator to serve as the program’s Executive Director.
The Executive Director is a critical member of the leadership team and provides strategic direction and operational leadership to deliver
academic programming in a fast-paced and rigorous learning environment at scale. They also work very closely with the Senior. Associate Dean
for Online learning in charting strategy and new offerings as well as the faculty governing committee (OMBA PDC) in providing governance and
addressing issues that emerge in the program.
The Executive Director also provides strategic leadership for the overall learner
lifecycle for the OMBA program and possesses knowledge of the adult learners needs and expectations as well as a clear understanding of
processes needed to attract, retain, support, and ultimately graduate engaged learners and alumni.
To support this overall lifecycle,
the Executive Director must orchestrate the specific functional roles that are involved: the faculty director, the director of marketing and
admissions, the director of student success and the director of program innovation and improvement. Given the scale of the OMBA program, the
Executive Director’s key role will be in integrating these functional leaders in an agile and holistic fashion to deliver a superior OMBA
experience for all involved.
The Executive Director oversee the overall program delivery and supervise the learning facilitator and
student success teams by providing strategic clarity and direction in the delivery of the integrated academic content, responding to student
cases and concerns in a timely fashion, and ensuring the positive experience of all relevant stakeholders – OMBA students, faculty, and
staff. The Executive Director manages external relations with Questrom and BU-wide stakeholders to improve program operations, increase
program visibility and develop the necessary infrastructure to enable the continuous growth and improvement of the program.
Specific
responsibilities include:
Orchestration of key program functions to enable superior OMBA experience (30%):
The Executive Director orchestrates OMBA’s key functions, including marketing and admissions, student services and success,
program design and delivery, and external relations with partners within Boston University and beyond. They provide key guidance in
operationalizing the marketing and admissions strategy for the program and a strategic oversight to ensure that OMBA students are supported
in building personal and teaming skills to work in a dynamic global academic environment. They also serve as a member of the OMBA
Professional Development Committee (PDC) to develop the necessary academic policies and processes for the successful delivery of the
curriculum.
Program delivery and continuous improvement (30%):
The Executive Director oversees the delivery
of the academic content of the program to ensure quality at scale as a hallmark of OMBA and the overall learning experience. They work
closely with the learning facilitator team to further develop the operations and the delivery infrastructure that supports a positive
student experience. The Executive Director also organizes training resources for instructors and staff to bolster the student experience and
build a sense of community. They draft program policies and procedures related to delivery and oversee the onboarding of staff, faculty, and
other program stakeholders to those policies, procedures, and program elements.
The Executive Director develops and uses key metrics
to ensure program success. These could be student rentetion across MODs, MOD NPS scores and their trends across MODs as well as attainment
of learning outcome for students for a given MOD. These metrics are key to orienting improvement efforts of the program.
The
Executive Director works closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Online Learning and the Director of Innovation to continuously improve
the delivery of the academic content to achieve operational excellence and quality at scale based on program metrics and other sources of
data.
Strategy development and implementation (20%):
The Executive Director works closely with the Senior
Associate Dean for Online learning and Faculty Director and OMBA’s leadership team to develop the strategy for continuous program growth and
improvement. S/he develops 1, 2 and 3-year strategic priorities and sets the implementation plan. S/he is also responsible for articulating
the program strategy and vision – in collaboration with the Senior Associate Dean for Online Learning, and in building the sense of
community and continuous engagement of students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
Staff management and supervision (20%):
The Executive Director leads and supervises the student success and learning facilitator team as well as the Senior Program
Coordinator. They also manage the performance review process and oversee staff hiring, contract extensions, and promotions. Overall, the
Executive Director is responsible for the implementation of a strategy and operational excellence to enhance the student experience of the
Questrom Online MBA.
