Boston University’s National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories is seeking a critical-thinking, self-motivated, diligent technology professional to fill the role of IT Systems Specialist within its Information Technology group. NEIDL IT supports the computing needs of faculty, staff, and students at the NEIDL. The IT Systems Specialist is responsible for the support, troubleshooting, maintenance, and installation of Windows and Mac systems, while attentively assessing and advocating for client and research needs. Beyond facilitating direct computer and client support, there will be opportunities to participate in, and lead, technology projects to support the NEIDLs unique research and operations.
The ideal candidate thrives in serving as a trusted partner to non-technical and technical colleagues, delivering guidance in responsive and proactive situations, to solve problems and empower the organizations mission. They are resourceful and adaptable, works well collaborating across teams, and ensures technology works for the client.
Required Skills
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:
Deep familiarity with Windows and MacOS operating system use and management. Comfortable with installing, configuring, and upgrading Windows and Mac systems. Proven track record in troubleshooting hardware, software, OS, and network issues while employing thoughtful strategy and communication. Familiarity with Active Directory and Group Policy. Experience with tools commonly leveraged in enterprise environments for delivering support and system management such as for remote assistance, asset management, deployment and mobile device management, patching, virus protection, and encryption (e.g., BeyondTrust Bomgar, Quest KACE, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, Ivanti). Knowledge of TCP/IP wired/wireless networking principles and application protocols: IP, DNS, DHCP, common application layer protocols, etc.
