Overview
The Electric Power Distribution Instructor teaches credit courses within the
Electric Power Distribution (EPD) One-Year Technical Diploma program at the Central Campus in Janesville WI. Position reports directly to
the Dean of Manufacturing, Apprenticeship, Technology & Transportation (MATT). Duties include teaching courses that prepare a student to
advance to an electric line technician apprenticeship and related occupations. This position will collaborate with employers to develop,
maintain, and upgrade curriculum in the areas of industrial electricity, safety procedures, electrical power distribution, and utility

This position will be

Responsibilities
1. Provide instruction for
Electric Power Distribution (EPD) courses as assigned.
2. Engage in ongoing student learning assessment in the Electric Power
Distribution program to determine effectiveness of instruction and curriculum. Use data to measure program outcomes related to student
persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence.
3. Remain current
on best practices in the teaching field so that instruction is delivered for a variety of learning styles, uses the latest supportive
technology, and utilizes alternative delivery methods. Develop curricula, assessments and lab projects to improve student success in a
multitude of delivery modalities.
4. Manage classrooms and oversee the lab to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
Responsible for lab inventory, ordering of supplies, tools and equipment, and the maintenance of required lab equipment.
5. Maintain
accurate student records and reports as requested by administrative offices.
6. Identify students needing assistance and refer students
to Student Services. Collaborate with Student Services and the Learning Resources staff members to help students adjust to the learning
environment.
7. Develop and update or revise course and program curriculum as needed to maintain relevance. Prepare and update course
syllabi (using BTC guidelines) for each course taught and work cooperatively with members of other departments and programs in coordinating
courses.
8. Meet weekly office hours and other duties required to meet student, employer, and college needs.
9. Create a classroom
environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism.
10. Attend Advisory Committee and
departmental meetings.
11. Collaborate with Business & Industry and Secondary Education partners to recruit students to the
Electrical Power Distribution program. Assist in job placement activities for graduates.
12. Participate in staff development
activities and serve on college improvement teams and college wide committees as appropriate.
13. Assist faculty chair and dean in
other duties as assigned.
14. Meet Wisconsin Technical College System professional development requirements through the Faculty Quality
Assurance System.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Associate’s degree in Electric Power
Distribution, or associate’s degree in any area with a technical diploma in Electric Power Distribution, or a technical diploma in
Electrical Power Distribution and a plan to obtain an associate degree in a related field within 3 years of date of hire.
2. Minimum 2
years (4,000 hours) of journey-level work experience as a Line Erector, Line Technician, Line Repairer, Line worker, or Line Mechanic of
which at least 1 year (2,000 hours) shall be within 5 years prior to the date of hire. One year (2,000 hours) of recent experience may be
waived if the instructor has at least 2 years post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate field within 5 years prior to the date
of hire.
3. Knowledge and understanding of and adherence to safety procedures and standards common to the electric line
industry.
4. Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
5. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, email,
and web applications.
Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to climb poles and ladders and demonstrate procedures to
students.
2. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
3. Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Desired
Qualifications:
1. Previous post-secondary teaching experience.
2. Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for
operation of a line truck and trailer, or ability to obtain one prior to date of hire.
3. Experience operating Digger Derrick truck,
bucket truck, backhoe, trencher, plow.
