The Department of Psychology at Bethel College (North Newton, Kansas) invites applications for a full time, tenure-track Assistant
Professor position in Psychology, to begin August 2024. The successful candidate should provide evidence of excellence in teaching, as well
as a commitment to mentoring undergraduate research in a liberal arts setting. Teaching responsibilities may include a range of psychology
courses (e.g., introductory psychology, developmental, clinical and counseling, neuroscience) including courses in the faculty
member’s areas of expertise. Additional teaching responsibilities may include courses related to data science (e.g., data
visualization, human-computer interaction). One significant advantage of a small liberal arts environment is that we are capable of shaping
our curriculum, and the successful candidate will be invited to collaborate as an active partner with current faculty. Most upper-level
Psychology courses involve a lab component, and applicants should speak to their ability and willingness to teach experimental methods and
statistics (preferably using R and Rstudio software). The Psychology program at Bethel College is strongly grounded in science and
data-driven psychotherapeutic approaches. A Ph.D. in hand is preferred, but ABD will be considered. Non-teaching duties will include student
recruitment visits, retention, assessment, academic advising, and participation in committee work. In addition, faculty members are
regularly engaged in the College’s Employment Experiences program through supervising and mentoring students who are fulfilling the
requirements of this program within their departments, primarily through exceptional and sustained opportunities for student participation
in research. Bethel College is a four-year, private, primarily residential liberal arts college, affiliated with but independent from
Mennonite Church USA, with a vibrant faculty of teacher-scholars, a talented staff, and intellectually curious students eager to make a
difference in the world.
We enthusiastically welcome applications from talented individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bethel College
does not discriminate or permit discrimination by any member of its community against any individual on the basis of race, color, religion,
national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, parental status, marital status, age, disability,
citizenship status, political affiliation, veteran status, genetic information or any other classification protected by law in matters of
admissions, employment, housing or services or in the educational programs or activities it operates. Harassment, whether verbal, physical
or visual, that is based on any of these characteristics is a form of discrimination.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, and a
curriculum vitae. If selected to move forward, candidates may subsequently be asked to submit a statement of teaching philosophy, a
statement of research interests, a statement of their position on issues of diversity and inclusion, graduate transcripts, and three letters
of reference with contact information including e-mail addresses and phone numbers. Review of applications will begin immediately and will
continue until the position is filled, with priority given to applications received by February 16, 2024.
