Battelle is seeking a HR Business Partner. This position is located in Columbus, OH.
Job Summary
Serves as HR Business Partner for a Business Unit or Corporate function, providing advice, counsel, and value add HR delivery. Works directly with Sr. HRBPs to provide additional departmental HR guidance and support. Works directly with HRBP’s. Position involves the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with regard to matters of significance.
Responsibilities
- Leads investigations and/or acts as integral part of formal investigations by conducting interviews, providing input, and working directly with management.
- Reviews, organizes, and analyzes data, providing recommendations and solutions directly to management in coordination with Sr. HRBPs based on business knowledge.
- May review, process and approve routine and complex employee transactions.
- Works directly with line management on reductions and terminations. Reviews reduction and termination materials, finalizes the justification memos, coordinates with Sr. HRBPs and internal departments, and consults with and supports line management.
- Proactively identifies equity issues, collects, audits, and analyzes salary information to ensure equity. Works with manager on group actions and makes final recommendations.
- Handles routine and complex employee relation issues to provide recommendations and solutions to employees and management. May work with other internal departments such as legal.
- Collaborates in the development of organizational talent at all levels by actively participating and leading annual processes such as talent assessments, talent reviews, promotions, workforce planning, talent management and salary planning, relative to assigned businesses.
- Actively leads and contributes to overall department and organizational goals by leading and/or participating on special project teams.
- Provides coaching and guidance on routine to complex issues with management.
- Partners directly with management to resolve disciplinary actions; including written warnings, expectations memos, and performance improvement plans (PIP).
- Partners with Centers of Expertise in the areas of Talent Management, Compensation, HRIS and Benefits to ensure a holistic delivery of HR support to the business.
- Partners with Sr. HRBP on complex and strategic issues such as organization design, workforce planning, and leadership development.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Administration; five years of experience working directly with employees and management; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
- Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with PeopleSoft and Success Factors preferred.
- Professionally handle confidential material and information, maintain discretion, and display a high degree of trust.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and manage and/or lead projects simultaneously, and meet established deadlines.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to interface with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to think strategically, proactively recognize potential issues, develop solutions, and take appropriate action based on knowledge of the business or function.
- Exercise sound judgment and decision making abilities in situations which may involve high ambiguity.
- Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to influence, coach, and advise leaders to ensure consistency and fair treatment.
- Ability to effectively lead a cross-functional team.
- Effective presentation and facilitation skills.
- Awareness and knowledge of Federal and State employment law.
- Demonstrated customer service aptitude, including active listening skills and timely follow through.
- Strong team orientation and motivation to learn.

- PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP.
