Barrie Middle & Upper School (grades 6-12) is seeking a Middle & Upper School French Teacher to fill a medium-term need for between two months to the end of the academic year, depending on the candidate’s availability. The ideal candidate will have a teaching background and a passion for inquiry based education and project-based learning. The teacher would receive a contract prorated for the number of days that they would join the community between their start date and the end of the year.
Responsibilities would be focused on setting the candidate up for success in classroom teaching.
Bachelor’s degree in French or related field required.
Teach and assess five classes of French, from level IA (sixth graders) to Topics in French (juniors and seniors).
Attend weekly (staff, department, divisional) faculty meetings.
Build knowledge of Comprehensible Input (CI) and Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) as methodologies for immersing students in the target language, as well as understanding of and familiarity with American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards and administration of ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL).
Work with the Learning Specialist to ensure all students’ needs are being met
Lead proactive, transparent communications with families to support students
Collaborate with academic leaders and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team to foster inclusivity and belonging in the classroom and community at large
Fully participate in the life of middle and upper school.
Perform supervisory and substitute duties as needed
Help build an intentionally diverse and inclusive community and demonstrating cross-cultural competency.
