Purpose of the Job:
The Process Engineer provides day to day technical services to produce high quality Dyneema fiber and Dyneema LP products in a cost effective manner while maintaining excellent safety, human relations, and environmental standards.
Job Context:
The Process Engineer will operate within the organizational structure to provide process support and improvements for Avient Protective Materials. The person in this role will interact with all staff and local, site, and global colleagues. They will be knowledgeable of the Avient Protective Materials processes and product quality requirements for one or more major product types. They will analyze process data and provide troubleshooting, reporting, and take action to improve processes.

Key Areas of Accountability / Responsibility

4. Ensure all work is conducted in a safe and effective manner and all applicable procedures and policies are followed. Take action to correct unsafe acts, systems and procedures.
5. Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a “need to know” only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or Avient Protective Materials property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of Avient Protective Materials property and keys.
6. Have the ability to utilize analytical skills in the areas of heat/mass transfer, unit operations, fluid dynamics, and kinetics. Understand the link between automation and chemical/mechanical production processes and suggest ways to improve the processes via refined automation.
7. Lead or play a major role on project or other teams for Avient Protective Materials expansions and improvements.
8. Provide day to day process oversight for one or more Avient Protective Materials production lines.
9. Suggest and lead facilities, procedural and process improvements to maintain and improve production quality, safety, cost and efficiency in line with continuous improvement methodology.
10. Monitors and analyzes daily production independently for at least one Avient Protective Materials production area – two are preferred for cross-training and back-up capabilities. Analyze data generated by the quality laboratories and identify trends. Recognizes potential production problems, investigates and recommends solutions to correct them. Reports variances as required.
11. Participates in quality investigations as directed by Manager. Forms a team with appropriate internal representatives from Engineering, Quality and Production. Tracks progress of investigation (RCA), and ensures appropriate actions are taken to correct deficiencies.
12. Prepares, reviews, and approves production records including operating procedures, recipes, JSA’s, and change requests as required.
13. Interacts with Technicians on a daily basis to ensure effective communication of production and compliance related changes in procedures. Conducts formalized training for operative personnel as necessary.
14. Investigates and prepares reports related to production problems/improvements, customer complaints/inquiries, material reconciliation, process deviations, efficiency, and schedule variances.
15. Assist in developing operating goals in support of divisional, unit, and corporate objectives. Develops plans to reduce COGS by continuously improving efficiencies, processing times, reducing labor and material costs, reducing maintenance costs and controlling expense budgets.

18. Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing DYNPRO SHE DYN 653 and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.

Authorities
1. Update process recipes.
2. Initiate trials for product transfers or process improvements.
3. Make process changes to existing products within the approved process window.
4. Authorized to approve work permits per details included in DYNPRO SHE DYN 026. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities.
Projects or Special Assignments
Knowledge and Educational Level:
Minimum requirements for this position are a BS/BA from an accredited institution in a related engineering field plus 2-5 years technical experience in a plant or research capacity.
Complexity of the Job:
Process changes made by the Process Engineer will directly impact Manufacturing performance and cost. They can directly impact operability of the plant – which can affect cost, output, and employee morale. Reporting generated by this person will be shared locally within Avient Protective Materials, and globally within Avient Protective Materials.
Required Level of Experiences:
* Demonstrated technical process support ability.
* Advanced problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
* Must be willing to respond to all types of emergencies and spend overtime hours in monitoring scheduled work when required.
