The Emerging Technology Specialist facilitates cross-functional groups to conduct early-stage pilots of emerging technologies and will provide exceptional classroom success support on campus during peak periods. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal and presentation skills, advanced project coordination capabilities, successful experience in a team environment, appreciation for working with diverse audiences, experience working in or with media (graphics, video, or games) development process, technology trends and pedagogical practices in education, experience providing operational excellence, and a passion for customer service. This position supports and lends visions to establishing formal technology evaluation approaches, collaborating with groups across the university on the impacting uses of emerging technology to support learning, and sharing results of evaluations.

Essential Duties

• 80% of this position’s duties will be to establish and execute formalized evaluation approaches for early-stage technologies; 20% will be assisting with classroom and computing site operations during peak support periods to assist faculty with the successful delivery of their course content using the latest classroom technologies and learning strategies.
• Serve as a resource to the institution for identifying technologies that solve instructional challenges.
• Research and evaluate emerging digital platform technologies, pedagogies, and practices and provide ongoing ideas, guidance, and recommendations to the University community.
• Create project implementation or revision plans that take resource availability, timelines, and competing priorities into account including maintaining records, supplies, and inventory.
• Facilitate conversational sessions with faculty around platform tools, pedagogy approaches, and roadmap strategies.
• Implement evaluation procedures to assess the effectiveness of using technologies in teaching/learning experiences
• Collect and analyze end-user feedback and communicates this analysis through written descriptions, diagrams, screenshots, screencasts, and live demonstrations so it is helpful for designers and development staff.
• Develop and deliver faculty training, including self-help documents, online tutorials, and other multimedia materials, to assist faculty with the use of learning experience platforms and create awareness and understanding for new technologies.
• Maintain classroom and computing site environments by troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, network, and video conferencing issues which may include setting up, installing, and maintaining computer hardware and multimedia equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in technology or related field AND two years of experience providing information technology services; OR Four years of experience providing information technology services; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. Certificates from recognized programs that indicate mastery of tools and techniques relevant to the assignment may substitute for up to six months of experience.

• Ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms to diverse stakeholder groups: faculty, students, staff, and administrators
• Ability to accomplish tasks and projects with multiple and overlapping deadlines
• Understanding of instructional design principles, methods, and techniques for adult learning
• Experience in the following areas:
• Facilitating presentations to audiences of differing sizes
• Learning management systems, Apple and Windows Operating Systems
• Problem-solving with the ability to apply strong critical and logical analysis to scenarios in the context of educational technology use
• Working with educators and/or teaching/training others in a classroom setting
• Working in a lead position, including supervision of others
• Working with internal groups and outside vendors to collaborate on projects, problem solve, or design solutions
• Managing cases in reporting systems such as Salesforce and ServiceNow
• Implementing and working with a variety of classroom technologies
• Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to model empathy, compassion and emotional intelligence
• Experience working in a values-led organization, emphasizing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
• Ability to help foster a safe psychological space for all teammates where everyone can thrive
• Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment

Working Environment

• Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking
• Frequent physical demands may include stooping, bending, crawling under/around objects, reaching, lifting, and pushing objects of varying weights up to and over 100 pounds
• Position is based in Tempe, but travel to one of ASU’s Phoenix-metro campuses may be required during peak periods
• Receive regular review of completed tasks
• Communicate to perform essential duties
