Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Executive Director serves as the University’s Chief Accounting Officer and Controller and supports the University’s strategic plan through managing and directing the Controller’s Office. Through this office, the Controller manages the overall accounting operations of Washington State University in accordance with Federal and State laws and regulations, as well as within university policies and procedures. This includes establishing and managing internal controls to mitigate risk; ensuring that the official accounting records of the University are timely and accurate; safeguarding the assets of the University to minimize risk of financial loss; and developing and maintaining reporting tools to provide high-quality financial information that supports the University’s strategic initiatives.
Functionally, the Controller oversees core university accounting, payroll, sponsored program, and bursar service functions. The Controller interacts and collaborates with leadership at each University campus, college, and administrative area. The Controller serves as a collaborative and actively contributing member of the SAVP’s leadership team, which includes senior leaders for procurement, payment and contract services, treasurer and business services, real estate, and business system modernization and process improvement. With the implementation of an all-funds, responsibility center management-based budget, the Controller will work closely with budget operations in budget development and reporting.

This position is based in the WSU Zone 1 and is Salary Grade 14, which has a minimum monthly salary of $11,769.91 and maximum monthly salary of $19,203.54. The Hiring Department’s expected hiring range is $13,334.00 – $15,834.00. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, this salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Relocation Assistance
WSU will provide relocation compensation payment up to $20,000 in accordance with university policy and subject to appropriate payroll taxes. In accordance with BPPM 55.62, if you terminate your employment or cause termination with WSU within one year of the date of employment, for reasons other than layoff, disability separation or other good cause as determined by the Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer, the University is entitled to reimbursement for the full amount of the relocation compensation.
