More specifically, the Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of employee relations and labor relations and activities for temporary, and part and full-time faculty and staff. This position effectively manages confidential employee relations issues, including disciplinary actions, and employment-related investigations (complaints and conflicts), develops, administers, and implements policies and procedures and assists in the administration of a collective bargaining agreement. In addition, the specialist develops training modules on HR-related subjects and conducts training to support the HR function. The Employee Relations Specialist will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with departmental staff to build a strong employee relations program effectively and efficiently.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
What you will do in this role:
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS:
Mediates employee relations issues for temporary, and part and full-time faculty and staff.
Research complex labor and employee issues, and if necessary, refer to Director, Employee Engagement for consultation with legal counsel.
Conducts off-boarding process with separating employees and their managers and tracks data received from those interviews. Identifies trends and makes recommendations for improvement.
Provides professional guidance, support, training and instruction to supervisors and employees; acts as an objective, neutral party to understand and make unbiased recommendations.
Support managers and supervisors in coaching and disciplining employees and developing performance improvement plans.
Facilitates difficult conversations or provides mediation services to employees and managers.
Manage and administer EXCELL coaching conversation process for all staff.
POLICY AND PROCEDURES:
Researches current labor and employee relations policies, procedures, and best practices;
Makes recommendations regarding updates to existing policies and procedures or the need for new policies and procedures.
Advises employees and managers on the interpretation and administration of the college policies, procedures, College Manuals and constituency group codes.
TRAINING AND NEW EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION:
Designs training modules and conducts staff training regarding policies, procedures, and employee relations, as assigned.
Trains management on employee/labor relations.
Develops and provides onboarding and connection resources to new employees and supervisors outside of the benefits and new hire orientation.
Manages the SOAR (Staff Onboarding and Retention) program.
Reporting:
Tracks employee relations cases to identify complaint patterns within departments and divisions and recommends intervention or training solutions.
Conducts research and drafts Human Resources reports.
OTHER:
Provides support in other areas of Human Resources, including executing and supporting initiatives as assigned and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
What you will bring to this position:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of 5 years of employee relations or related experience.
Experience in developing, implementing, and providing training on policies and procedures.
Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Functional knowledge of federal and state labor and employee relations laws, regulations, and guidelines related to HR.
Strong experience in Microsoft Office.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and strong problem solving ability.
Preferred Qualifications:
And maybe a little of this, too (our preference, but not required)
PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM SCP, or other relevant national certification.
Training and experience in mediation and conflict resolution.
Collective bargaining experience.
Experience in higher education.
Experience with applicant tracking systems and ERP systems.
Bilingual or other language proficiency.
