Position Summary
The
Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences is the chief academic and administrative officer responsible for providing leadership and strategic
direction for the college. This position plays a critical role in shaping the academic, research, administrative, and service priorities of
the college and is accountable for the overall success and well-being of the college community.
Key
Responsibilities
Academic Leadership
Provide visionary leadership
to promote academic excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration within the college and with other colleges.
Oversee the development and implementation of academic programs, curricula, and policies.
Foster a culture of research,
scholarship, service, and creative activities among faculty and students.
Promote core liberal arts and general
education.
2. Administrative Oversight
Manage the college’s budget, resources, and personnel,
ensuring effective allocation and utilization.
Oversee academic support services, including student advising,
student services, and research centers.
Maintain and enhance relationships with external partners for fundraising,
graduate employment, alumni networking and faculty recruiting purposes.
Establish departments and programs based on
changing educational paradigms and market needs.
Promote continuing education in the various disciplines of the
college.
3. Faculty Development and Support
Recruit, retain, and support a diverse and talented
international faculty.
Promote faculty development, performance evaluation, mentoring, and recognition.
Encourage a culture of innovative teaching and modern research practices.
4.Student Success
Foster student success, retention, and graduation rates.
Support initiatives to enhance the overall student experience
and promote student academic and practical immersion.
Collaborate with academic advisors to ensure academic advice meets
the needs of students.
Promote college programs visibility to enhance student recruitment and retention.
5. Strategic Planning
Develop and implement a strategic plan for the college that aligns with the overall
university’s goals and mission.
Lead the college in achieving its strategic objectives.
6. Community
Engagement
Foster positive relationships with the local and global communities.
Promote engagement
and outreach efforts to showcase the college’s contributions.
Promote entrepreneurship, incubators, and innovation
hubs
Establish alumni associations
Establish advisory boards to keep abreast of emerging
teaching practices, market needs, and developing technologies.
Develop centers to provide services including adult
learning, consulting, and specialized services that respond to community needs.
Qualifications:
A doctoral degree from a recognized university in one of the college fields,
A minimum of 5 years of work experience as a Head of Department, Assistant/Associate Dean, or Dean
Must be
fluent in English and possess effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
Proven leadership skills and
the ability to inspire, guide, and motivate faculty, staff, and students
Ability to effectively communicate the vision and
goals of the college to students, staff, alumni, practitioners, external funding agencies, and other decision-making organizations.
A track record of encouraging excellence in research, teaching, and service, as well as a reputation for original
scholarship.
The ability to think strategically and form successful institutional alliances
Administrative experience, a high level of professional ethics, and excellent team-building abilities are required.
A
deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing higher education in Iraq
Demonstrated experience in general
and liberal arts education leadership.
