Job Summary:

• The Center for Conservation Research, College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (SAAS) at Alcorn State University, MS, is seeking a motivated undergraduate/graduate student to conduct conservation research on horticultural (fruits, vegetables, and spices).

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Student must have the ability to work in the field/plot and have basic laboratory knowledge.
• Individuals must have good writing and verbal communication skills.
• ·Individuals must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and other partners.
• Individuals must demonstrate competency in the use of computers and electronic outreach methods.
• Individuals must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and other partners involved in the center’s research and production activities.

Essential Job Functions :

• Individuals will evaluate the rate of decomposition of surface and subsurface applied crop residues, their C:N ratios and their role in nutrient cycling or management.
• Individuals will collect research data on pecans, blueberries, and muscadine on the 5 acre of Agroforestry research project.
• Individuals will process the data and present papers at MAS and ARD meetings to be held in Spring 2024.
• Individuals will keep the lab as clean as possible.
• Other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

Student Research Assistant must possess the following:

• Have a GPA of 2.5 or above.
• Maintain a full-time status (12 hours of enrollment).
• Willingness to learn.
• Must be dependable.
• Must have excellent communication, customer relations, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Must have effective time management skill and computer skills.
• Must be able to complete projects by deadline.

$10.00 per hour
