Job Summary:
Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the APUESS is an integral member of the Provost’s forward-thinking, student-oriented Executive Leadership Team and participates in the institution’s strategic planning and represents the Division and/or the Provost at appropriate meetings/events as requested. The APUESS provides engaging leadership and accountability for developing, implementing and monitoring the outcome(s) assessment(s) for student retention, recruitment, graduation and academic success programs. The APUESS advises and collaborates with the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Associate Provost for Research, Innovation, and Graduate Education on critical student-success related issues.
Essential Job Functions :
The APUESS provides student-focused leadership and management and articulates with clarity the vision through the synergistic coordination of offices and programs that are focused on high impact practices supporting student academic success.
This position will coordinate initiatives aimed at increasing student performance metrics through collaborations with faculty, staff, students, and other administrative leaders on campus.
In addition, the position will partner with the Provost and Senior Vice President on program design, planning coordination, and interaction with internal and external stakeholders while leading special and grant-funded student academic success initiatives.
To ensure ongoing success of the University’s retention and student academic success programs, the APUESS will create a performance culture of responsiveness, student-focus and accountability through strategic direction, collaboration, and timely priority-setting.
Ongoing communication, delivery of student academic success metrics in collaboration with the Offices of Institutional Research and Institutional Effectiveness is essential to the success of the APUESS.
This position oversees on-going assessment and continuous improvement of programs/services (in collaboration) supporting student academic success by guiding the establishment and completion of annual goals, articulating challenges, reporting on outcomes and achievements on a semester-basis; ensuring initiatives are effective using program assessment and data analysis; gathering input from key stakeholders (including students, faculty, and staff); building consensus and developing collegial, collaborative working relationships with a broad range of constituencies; partnering with administrative and academic departments to support the University’s prime directive of promoting enrolment, retention, and graduation for diverse student populations.

The ideal candidate will share a philosophy of engagement with the entire student lifecycle components and demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusion initiatives in the development of robust student academic success programs.
The preferred candidate will build and maintain relationships with a wide diversity of individuals to create successful student-based outcomes.
Demonstrated experience in leading successful change efforts, including conflict resolution, team building with a customer service focus is preferred.
A keen knowledge of and skill in process improvement and data driven decision-making is a plus.
Strengths in analyzing multi-layered problems, proposing solutions based on notable best practices in the field, program design, development and implementation are desired.
Demonstrated evidence of administrative skills in budgeting, stewardship of human and fiscal resources coupled with excellent interpersonal/organizational, oral and written communication skills is important for this position.
Monitoring trends in the student academic success initiatives/programs, leading to innovative, customized solutions for student success is a definite advantage.
