Alabama State University invites applications to fill the position, Vice President Information Technology. The selected candidate will
serve as the Chief Technology Officer for the University and is responsible for the following:
Leads the Office of Technology Services and ensures technology support, core services,
infrastructure, applications, technologies, and data/analytics are delivered efficiently and effectively throughout the educational,
research, and administrative operations of ASU
Serves as a visionary about the role of information technology in
higher education and serves as a resource for ERP systems, networks, and telecommunications management, in a generalized role, acting as a
teacher, facilitator, coach and partner
Ensures reliability, stability and efficiency of the infrastructure and
operating systems of the University, to include all data centers, technical-service centers, enterprise systems, helpdesks, communication
networks (voice and data), software development, and computer system operations
Ensures information technologies
meet regulatory requirements
Establishes enterprise-wide IT policies, standards and procedures to ensure the
integrity, security, privacy, availability and the protection of the assets entrusted to or maintained by the University
Communicates plans, policies, and technology trends throughout the institution
Provides regular reports on
operations and initiatives to the executive leadership
Develops and controls annual operating budget for OTS to ensure
it is consistent with the overall strategic objectives of the University
Recommends cost effective technology and use
of resources to the Vice President for Business and Finance
Approves, coordinates, supports and oversees all projects
related to selection, acquisition, development, and installation of major information systems for the University
Reviews all hardware, software, and maintenance contracts, soliciting involvement and participation of other leadership team members as
appropriate
Provides leadership in the development and maintaining of University policies and procedures and standards
aimed at maximizing effectiveness and minimizing costs related to acquisition, implementation and operation of IT systems
All technology based systems on campus including wired and wireless computers, telecommunications and cable TV networks, ERP, classroom
technology, computer lab facilities, technology infrastructure, and security
Develops and maintains positive,
cooperative working relationships with other staff, and constituencies
Provides leadership in planning and development
for academic and administrative computing needs to include implementing and maintaining the campus network infrastructure and enterprise
resource programs
Handles sensitive and confidential information in a professional and businesslike manner
Works effectively with faculty and staff members to prioritize and assist in completing assignments by expected deadlines, all in
an effort to maintain the technology infrastructure for the University
Exercises sound independent judgment with
approval from executive leadership on major projects
Manages site licenses and negotiates institutional
contracts
Executes institutional strategic plan (technology services) and documents continuous improvement
Master’s Degree in Business, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution with 10 years of experience as
a manager/director of information technology, to include networking, technology infrastructure and telecommunications management. Working
knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft, Banner or AWS Cloud Applications desired.
