Position Summary
We seek an energetic and enthusiastic individual who loves teaching and shares our dedication to
excellence. The successful applicant will join a close-knit department that offers bachelor’s degrees in psychology, psychology with
an emphasis in clinical and a joint sports psychology program with our Kinesiology department. Although our department members are research
active, Adams State University is an institution primarily focused on teaching excellence, and the teaching load is comprised of 12
credit-hours each semester.
STARTING DATE
The position is available to start January 8, 2024, with teaching
commencing on January 16, 2024.

Minimum Qualifications
1. PhD in Psychology by the time the position
starts.
2. A strong focus on teaching and experience teaching psychology courses at the undergraduate level including face-to-face
and online delivery modalities. While we are interested in generalists, teaching responsibilities will likely encompass the following
courses: Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods, Introduction to Psychological Statistics, Positive Psychology, Introduction to
Counseling skills.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of, sensitivity to, and ability to work effectively with the educational needs of
individuals and groups with a diverse range of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and abilities in a global environment.
4. Evidence
of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity of Adams State University’s
student population, including students with different abilities (e.g., physical and or learning) as these factors relate to the need for
equity-minded practices within the classroom.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Ability or experience working with
historically under-served and/or underrepresented populations, and first-generation college students.
2. Ability or experience in the
recruitment and/or retention of underrepresented students, including students of color.
3. Commitment to professional development,
scholarship, and service to the university and community.
4. Demonstrated self-awareness of one’s own cultural beliefs, perspectives,
and privileges as a part of one’s orientation towards teaching.
5. Demonstrated decision-making that is informed by research, data,
and theory and that leverages students’ unique cultures, experiences, and background as strengths.
Salary and
Benefits
The salary for the position is $48,000-$51,000 commensurate with experience and education. In addition to salary,

About Alamosa, Colorado
Located in the beautiful San Luis Valley between the Sangre de Cristo and San Juan Mountain ranges, much of the vast San Luis Valley is
designated the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area. We are, at 7,500 feet, in the largest alpine valley in the United States. Alamosa is
located approximately 3.5 hours from Denver, 1.5 hours from Taos, New Mexico, and 2.5 hours from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Alamosa has a

Adams State University is a state-supported, regional comprehensive university located in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado and the city of Alamosa.
