University’s Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Director,
Research Program/Services vacancy.
Responsibilities
Manages the day to day
activities of the Office of Technology Transfer in a fiscally responsible manner under the approved administrative structure; Promotes and
executes policies on technology transfer, as well as monitor procedures on inventions and new developments in all colleges and schools;
Develops plans for the effective transfer of technology to industry or new business ventures; Interprets and communicates FAMU’s policies
and processes on applying for patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights; Coordinates the protection of intellectual property for
FAMU; Identifies potential licensees and contractors; Drafts and negotiates license agreements; Identifies and seeks to generate revenue by
drafting and negotiating license agreements; Seeks to generate revenue by drafting and negotiating research contracts and services and
license agreements with private industry and government laboratories; Proactively facilitates university collaborations with industry on
technology transfer matters; Educates the university community and private sector about technology transfer and commercialization and
facilitate interactions between the campus and private industry; Encourages the disclosure of technology with market potential; and assists
with the evaluation of inventions and identify commercial applications using market research and analysis knowledge, skills and abilities.
Evaluates disclosures for patentability and licensing potential; Identifies potential commercial applications and business partners
for university inventions; Markets university inventions through multiple channels to potential licensees in order to transfer technology to
market; Creates marketing and licensing strategies that maximize technology commercialization potential; Negotiates and drafts licenses and
related technology transfer agreements, terms, and conditions in compliance with university policies, rules and regulations prior to
agreement signing; Contributes to ongoing strategic planning, plan implementation, and process improvement to enable the OTT to deliver high
quality, professional service to a growing base of inventors and authors of copyrightable work; Maintains and monitors licensing agreements
made between the inventors and the university and between other entities and the university; Informs subordinates of all relevant University
Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures and provides access to all related documents; Assesses and documents subordinates’ ability to
comply with all relevant University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures; Employs measures of accountability for compliance with
University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures; and conducts and documents performance evaluations in a timely manner for each
subordinate, in accordance with University Regulations and Internal Operating Procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s
degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of related experience; or master’s degree in an appropriate area of
specialization and six years of related experience.

relationships.

The individual in this position must have knowledge of the laws and regulations such as the Export
Administration Regulations (EAR); International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR); Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC); and the Patriot
Act to enable the individual to work with legal counsel and federal agencies regarding export security, and travel-related matters;
The individual must have sufficient understanding of technology and the Commerce Control List (CCL) and United States Munitions List (USML)
to work with investigators and technicians in making accurate technology classifications and licensing determination;
Evidence of
excellent written and verbal commutations skills are required; and
Product Management/Productivity Software: Microsoft Suite,
SharePoint, WebEx, Outlook, Access, Database, Publisher, Abobe Suite.
Anticipated Salary Range
The hiring salary
is $100,000.
Pay Plan
This is an
Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.

Employment
Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of

auxiliaries and local funds having a defined expiration date. Persons hired in such positions are eligible to attain permanent status with
