Summary of Responsibilities
Responsible for collecting and posting insurance payments, entering charges, and assisting patients with their accounts, both in the office and on the phone. Position requires accuracy, thoroughness, and a good understanding of insurance procedures for referrals, copays, deductibles, allowables, CPT codes and
Diagnosis codes. Work is multitasked and interrupted often. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with patients & payers.

List of Responsibilities/Duties

• Posts insurance company & foundation payments.
• Posts patient payments.
• Enters charges for surgeries, procedures, and other services.
• Cheerfully answers patient inquiries in person and on the phone.
• Prints and balances the day sheet and prepares receipts for deposit.
• Follows up on insurance company requests for additional information and denials.
• Reviews the accounts receivable aging report for claims that need to be refilled or followed up in some other manner including collections & refunds.
• Prints patient statements, reviews & prepares for outgoing mail.
• Works on day of authorizations for injections & procedures.
• Assists with PODIS & bar reports.
• Enters new referring physicians’ information into systems.
• Reviews pending failed letters to referring providers.
• Assists with other patient service responsibilities as requested.
• Asks questions if ever uncertain of what, how, or why to do something.

Minimum Demonstrated Skills

• Posts charges and payments accurately and promptly, including the proper use of modifiers.
• Always maintains patient confidentiality and communicates with the compliance officer regarding procedural changes and concerns.
• Assists patients willingly, professionally, and accurately.
• Cooperates and communicates with all staff members and physicians.
• Attends required meetings.
• Participates in professional development efforts to stay current on insurance coverage changes and regulatory matters.

• Demonstrates a willingness to help as needed in all patient service roles.
• Complies with all other Patient policies and procedures including punctuality, attendance, and dress codes.
• Word processing and computer experience required.

• Displays consistent professionalism, common courtesy, and a positive rapport towards coworkers and patients.
• Cooperates with supervisory staff and physicians.
• Demonstrates flexibility in job assignment.

• Communicates effectively with lead about schedule or any special needs.

Physical Demands

• Ability to handle and count cash accurately with minimal errors.
• Ability to sit for long periods of time, with occasional bending.
• Must be able to view and enter data into the computer for extended periods.
• Must be able to communicate via the telephone.
