Description
The Syracuse University Department of Drama seeks to hire a one-year visiting assistant teaching professor of
movement for its Acting Program. Primary expertise should include a variety of movement techniques applicable to acting and performance.
Specializations can include Mask Work, Clown, Commedia, Circus/Acrobatics, Body Conditioning/Training, Tai Chi or other Martial Arts Forms,
Contact Improvisation, Fight Choreography, or Intimacy Direction. Additional expertise in other areas of movement is also welcome. The
department seeks candidates whose personal and professional experience, teaching, and creative activity contribute to the advancement of
equity, aesthetic diversity, and cultural wealth. Successful candidates will enhance the department’s capacity both to honor and to
cultivate the contributions of those communities that have historically been under-represented or underserved in theater training and/or the
theatrical profession. The position will teach a variety of movement courses at all levels, depending on expertise and as assigned by the
Chair. This position will begin in August 2022.

Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree plus
additional preparation, as demonstrated by either significant professional experience at the highest level and/or relevant advanced degree,
are required.
* Demonstrated teaching excellence in a pre-professional, professional, or university environment is required.
*
Proven ability to successfully work with professional quality department productions – as demonstrated by a record of professional
accomplishment – is desired.
* Demonstrated personal and professional experience, teaching, and creative activity that will contribute
to the advancement of equity, aesthetic diversity, and cultural wealth are required.
* Ability to enhance the department’s capacity
both to honor and to cultivate the contributions of those communities that have historically been under-represented or underserved in
performance training and/or the performing arts is required.
* Movement experience/expertise in areas such as Mask, Clown, Fight
Choreography, and Intimacy Direction is highly desirable.

* Commitment to the
development of a curriculum that responds effectively to the artistic needs of an ever-changing profession, and that prepares a diverse
array of students to assume leadership roles.
* Ability and willingness to collaborate with faculty in all programs (Acting, Musical
Theater, Theater Design and Technology, Stage Management, and Theater Management) in the ongoing life of a top-quality pre-professional
training program.
* Expertise in diverse aesthetic genres and styles as applied to acting and performance is desired.
Responsibilities
