Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Education and Workforce Development, the Dean for Health Professions and Public Service is responsible for providing administrative leadership and supervision for the academic disciplines of criminal justice, emergency medical technician, fire science, health information technology, human services, interpreter training, legal interpreting, medical assistant, nurse assistant, nursing, operating room patient care technician, paralegal, phlebotomy, sign language, surgical technology, and therapeutic massage. Responsibilities for this position encompass budgeting, course and program scheduling, faculty and staff selection, orientation and evaluation of staff and faculty, curriculum and program development, and overall supervision of the division.
Responsibilities
Develop an instructional schedule for the division for each semester and assign individual instructors to implement the schedule.
In collaboration with Human Resources and the Assistant Vice President of Education and Workforce Development, as appropriate, maintain staffing for the division, including the recommendation of full-time faculty and support staff for employment and the extension of offers of employment to part-time staff.
Supervise and evaluate all full-time faculty members and support staff within the division and provide guidance for professional development opportunities.
Coordinate the curriculum process for all instructional areas in the division, collaborating with full-time faculty members to review and evaluate curricula and to recommend curriculum revisions; and provide leadership for the development of new curricula in relevant discipline areas.
Prepare and monitor division budgets, including a review and recommendation of staffing needs, oversight of grants, purchase and maintenance of equipment, and purchase of software.
Provide leadership for student recruitment and retention for all instructional programs in the division in cooperation with full-time faculty, Admissions, and Marketing and Communications.
Interact with students to resolve student complaints and provide program and course advisement as requested.
Supervise the application and admission process and accreditation procedure for the restricted enrollment programs in the division.
Maintain contact with local industries and businesses and appropriate community groups to ensure the relevance of programs and curricula.
Prepare and submit to the Assistant Vice President of Education and Workforce Development all required forms and reports for the division, such as annual goals, division accomplishments and employee evaluation.
Serve as a member of the administrative team, participating in the academic Deans’ Instructional Council, serving on college committees as requested, assuming responsibility for membership in a community service organization, and developing effective working relationships within the college to address issues that relate to both instruction and the overall mission of the college.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Education and Workforce Development.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in related field required.
Minimum three years of experience in higher education at the administrative level required. Comparable professional experience in the private or public sector may be considered.
Minimum three years of supervisory experience required.
