Dakota State University invites applications for a full time, 9-month term (non-tenure track) position as Instructor and Director of Theater, beginning fall 2022. The successful candidate will oversee the theatrical activities at the university and will also teach a range of courses which, depending on the successful applicant’s background, could include acting, introduction to theater, theater history, film appreciation, or fundamentals of speech.Must be authorized to work in the United States. As a one-person department, the successful applicant should be a generalist with experience in acting and directing. The Director of Theater will have significant autonomy in choosing and staging each production and must be comfortable working independently.
While there is no theater major at DSU, theater provides a creative outlet for students of all majors and enriches the intellectual climate on campus. Theater is also an important part of the General Education curriculum. Dakota State University has both large and small performance venues available as appropriate for the scheduled productions (including the 500 seat Dakota Prairie Playhouse).
