Description
The Department of Psychology at West Virginia University invites applications for a Service Assistant Professor starting August 2022. This is a 9-month, full-time non-tenure track position with full benefits. Service Assistant Professors at WVU are eligible for promotion; however, promotion to senior ranks is not required for institutional commitment and career stability in a service faculty appointment. Service Assistant Professor appointments have renewable terms up to three years, with no limits on the number of terms.
The successful candidate will serve as an academic advisor for students in our undergraduate program; teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses; and serve as the Assistant Director of Graduate Training to provide administrative support for our doctoral training program. Part-time summer administrative responsibilities are expected with additional compensation.
Qualifications
This position requires a doctoral degree or equivalent in Psychology or a closely related field by August 2022. Other requirements include experience or a demonstrated ability to advise, mentor, and monitor academic progress of students; the ability to assist in administrative operations of our doctoral graduate program; excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent undergraduate and/or graduate teaching skills. The teaching load is 3 courses per year. A 10% allocation of time for conducting research is available but not required.
The Department of Psychology has 26 full-time faculty, 73 graduate students, and 775 undergraduate majors. Doctoral training is offered in Behavior Analysis (ABAI-accredited), Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical and Clinical Child Psychology (APA-accredited), and Life-Span Developmental Psychology.
