Job Description
Facilities Development and Management seeks an Electrical Engineer Sr. to support Facilities Management with the operation of the medium-voltage distribution system and equipment, and for overall operations support of electrical systems and infrastructure. Review detailed plans, specifications and bid documents for capital improvement projects related to campus and building electrical infrastructure. Provide professional direction and coordination to other engineers and technicians. Coordinate design activities and prepare and review detailed engineering documents. Other projects may be executed using outside consultants, in which case, the Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible to provide technical review and input.

Essential Duties
May supervise, coordinate or monitor activities of subordinates and consultants. Plan and design or manage the design and operation of electrical systems components, or equipment. Organize and manage the adoption of engineering principles in the solution of problems for the development of new techniques, instrumentation and/or processes. Oversee construction, testing and installation activities to ensure conformance to engineering design and specifications. Review completed projects, designs or studies for policy and budgetary compliance; may perform technical review of designs where questionable. Coordinate engineering studies. Coordinate operation, maintenance and repair activities to maintain optimum utilization of equipment or system. Provide design concepts and oversee design by consulting Architects and/or Engineers. Recommend design modifications or alterations. Prepare correspondence to other divisions, departments or agencies regarding status or technical aspects of work performed by section. Write research papers on projects for publication and present papers at conferences. Assist operations and maintenance staff to ensure all campus electrical equipment and systems are operated in a safe, energy-efficient, and reliable manner. Interface with utility providers to resolve power delivery and power quality issues. Directly support Facilities Management staff by providing P.E. review of all project M.O.P.s and medium-voltage switching operations, both planned and emergency. Review specifications and design guidelines for projects.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field AND seven (7) years of related engineering experience, which includes two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience; OR, nine (9) years of electrical engineering or related experience, which includes seven (7) years of professional level electrical experience, which includes two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months, a certificate of registration as a professional engineer with proficiency in Electrical Engineering with registration in the state of Arizona. Employee must possess a valid US Drivers license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

· NFPA 70E Arc Flash standards.
· Engineering principles and procedures.

Ability to:
· Stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
· Lead by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution’s sustainability programs.
Working Environment
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Occasionally participate in field work doing on-site inspections, which requires accessing paved, rocky or uneven areas and exposure to dire, dust, extreme temperatures and inclement weather. Field work also includes support of central plant equipment and systems in a loud environment. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ (on Rural Road south of Apache Blvd).
Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
This position may be called in for emergency response including nights, weekends, and holidays.
