The Lead Electrical Engineer leads the improvement planning, development of project scope, and optimizing efficient operations of the OSUMC Health System’s electrical infrastructure assets and design standards, including electrical utilities and distribution, emergency power generation, fire alarm system, nurse call systems, lighting controls, building automation systems, and other electrical and utility distribution systems to ensure life and patient safety and achieve positive operational outcomes across all of the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center facilities.
The Lead Electrical Engineer functions with a very high level of autonomy and typically serves as an engineering planner/coordinator of projects for the health system utilizing both internal and external professional consultants and resources. Projects coordinated and managed by this position are of considerable scope, value, and frequently involve a high level of technical design, investigation, and communication throughout the organization, consulting, and construction teams while seeking successful problem resolutions.
The Lead Electrical Engineer will provide leadership and development of the Facilities Engineering team by applying their knowledge and advanced understanding of industry concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to manage a wide variety of complex projects. They may develop new practices, processes, metrics, or models, work on and lead highly complex projects of large scope and provide solutions which may set precedent enterprise wide. Projects may have significant and long-term impact. They will independently determine the method for completion of new projects and receive guidance on overall project objectives. They will provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced colleagues, convey difficult, complex, or sensitive information and facilitate productive dialogue, and persuade others to consider different options at all levels throughout the enterprise. They will be the lead liaison between the Hospital, Administration, and University / Physical facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or facilities-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience in facilities operations. PE License required. At least 6 years of experience, 8-12 years’ experience desired with hospital related work preferred. Knowledge of maintaining power distribution systems, building electrical systems, lighting, and ancillary systems design (preferably in a hospital setting); progressive project, construction, or operations management and leadership experience; knowledge of complex building systems design and operations, ability to build consensus and relationships among wide variety of users, employees, and customers; excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to comfortably handle risk and uncertainty, and work in a diverse and customer focused environment.
This position primarily works on first shift, but is subject to changes in shift, hours, days, and/or location as operations dictate. In accordance with the Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy 6.17, this position has been designated as essential.
