Minimum Qualifications:
* MD from an appropriately accredited institution
* Board certification from the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery (exceptions will be considered for uniquely qualified international candidates)
* Ability to secure a full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in Minnesota
* Experience and expertise in all clinical aspects of colorectal surgery
* National or international recognition for major contributions to the field of colon and rectal surgery with multiple publications in leading peer-reviewed journals
Preferred Qualifications:
* Proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary team to consistently deliver high quality patient care
* Track record of securing independent funding in basic, translational, clinical or surgical education research
* Proven leadership and mentorship expertise
The Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota is seeking a dynamic, experienced, board certified, academic colorectal surgeon to head its Division of Colon & Rectal Surgery. The successful candidate will hold the Staley M. Goldberg, M.D. Chair in Colon and Rectal Surgery. The Division comprises 21 faculty including 5 full time University surgeons (a 6th surgeon is joining in January, 2023), 13 adjunct faculty from Colon and Rectal Surgery Associates, Ltd (CRSAL), 2 surgeons at the Minneapolis Veterans Administration Hospital and 1 surgeon at Hennepin Healthcare.
The combined faculty train five clinical postgraduate colorectal surgical residents each academic year. This highly sought after training program meets the requirements of the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and has an unsurpassed history of training academic leaders in colon and rectal surgery since 1950. The CRS Division Chief will have leadership opportunities within the Department of Surgery, medical school and surgical specialty service line and may engage in any of the other 5 schools, interdisciplinary centers and programs in the Academic Health Center. Examples include the Masonic Cancer Center, an NIH designated comprehensive cancer center that houses the William C. Bernstein, MD, Familial Cancer Registry; the School of Public Health; and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Competitive compensation, benefits and startup resources are available.
