Manages landscaping and grounds-keeping operations. Supervises a landscape maintenance crew for a specific area of campus. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
35% – Non-Essential – Scheduling and Grounds Keeping Management: Schedules and directs grounds-keeping activities for a particular outlined area of campus. Prioritize the use of assigned equipment to ensure the most efficient and productive use. Inspect entire assigned area weekly to ensure it is aesthetically pleasing and to help prioritize staff’s weekly work schedules. Reads, understands, and implements landscape plans on site. Implement weather related campus clearing and cleanup plans whenever necessary.
25% – Essential – Personnel Management: Interviews, hires, trains, schedules, and directs staff. Promotes equal opportunity and respect. Provides development through performance appraisal. Completes fair Employee Performance Management System planning stages and evaluations. Investigates irregularities and policy violations and takes corrective action. Reviews, evaluates and monitors work schedules, flow, hours, and assignments. Promotes good employee relations and solves group problems. Maintains current personnel records. Provides staff in-service and continuing education. Promotes and encourages professional growth,development and cooperation.
15% – Essential – Record keeping and Ordering: Maintains records of labor hours, materials, and equipment. Ensure subordinates time cards reflect where work was performed. Orders supplies and makes recommendations for equipment needs and purchases.
15% – Essential – Pest Management: Identifies insect and disease problems on all types of plant material and takes corrective action. Assists in special projects such as plant surveys or product tests. Assists in conducting Integrated Pest Management Program. Directs handling and application of herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.
10% – Essential – Training: Coordinates preparation of training programs and trains employees in safe, efficient use of landscape and heavy equipment. Ensure new employee on-boarding is completed in a timely manner.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education – High School Diploma or Equivalent and custodial, groundskeeping or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment.
Licenses – Drivers License Class D normal Work Experience: 3+ years
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education – Vocational or Technical Training 1 – SC Pesticide Applicators License
Work Experience: 5+ years

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Band: 04 ($ 38,000.00 – $ 42,000.00)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson’s compensation guidelines.

Essential Level 1 employee
Required to respond during an emergency closure or modified operations in order to provide the University’s initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
