HarcoSemco Looking for Staff Accountant at Branford, CT  Full Time

We have seen great success in innovating advanced manufacturing techniques in the design and fabrication of temperature sensors, thermocouple systems, interconnect cable-harness assemblies, probes, and sensors. For over 65 years, we have successfully supplied these products to the commercial, business, military jet, rotor, and spacecraft markets.

Based in Branford, CT, we have an opportunity for a Staff Accountant to join our team. The Staff Accountant works under the supervision of the Accounting Manager and will maintain financial reports, records, and general ledgers; preparing and analyzing budgets and performing general bookkeeping. Also, our Staff Accountant will be responsible for billing activities, accounts receivable and assisting with accounts payable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for collection of AR. This includes analyzing and researching customer accounts as well as interfacing with the customer.
• Generate customer invoices daily, including web invoicing as required by customers.
• Record daily cash receipts to customer accounts.
• Run credit applications and set credit limits for new and existing customers.
• Manage employee credit card transactions, verifying receipts and that all expenses have the appropriate approval. Audit all travel expense reports and approve and code the reimbursement.
• Analyze the sales representative’s monthly commissions by reviewing invoicing and accruals.
• Generate reports and statistical data as required using defined guidelines.
• Reconcile all balance sheet accounts to the subledger including Fixed Assets. Investigate and correct variances.
• Analyze and reconcile the monthly shipments to the Sales Journal report and to the general ledger. Distribute shipments report.
• Analyze and reconcile monthly bookings and backlog reports. Distribute reports.
• Generate and upload monthly journal entries.
• Reconcile and confirm Intercompany balances monthly.
• Maintain invoices in AP Smart. Communicate with vendors and supply chain to reconcile any discrepancies.
• Enter and maintain vendors and customers in the ERP system following corporate policy.
• Generate weekly cash requirements. Process AP payments weekly. Generate wire payments and verify positive pay.
• Assist with annual budget preparation.
• Support internal and external financial audits.
• Participate in training as required.
• Assist with monthly financial package.
• Perform related work and other tasks or projects as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in accounting. Professional-level accounting experience may substitute for the degree as appropriate.
• 3 years’ experience preferred.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures on manual and automated systems.
• Experienced in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Manufacturing ERP system.
• Skilled in verbal communication of work-related information using tact and diplomacy.
• Required to have a high level of confidentiality. Must be extremely trustworthy.
• Must be able to actively engage with employees, supervisors, and other managers on the production floor.

• Work in an office and manufacturing environment; work performed in a climate-controlled office area adjacent to production floor.
