The Associate Director of Teaching Support and Innovation supports MPH faculty in pedagogical innovation by focusing efforts on the current and trending directions for higher education and MPH students.
By capitalizing on a collaborative and forward-thinking approach to faculty outreach, the Associate Director of Teaching Support and Innovation will promote quality improvement and advancement of teaching practices. Support tasks may include a variety of initiatives, such as class observations and class material reviews for interested faculty; providing mini-workshops focused on specific areas of pedagogical practice and trends in public health education; providing resources and ideas in the faculty newsletter to promote innovation in teaching practices across the program; and serving as a liaison between the MPH program and Penn’s Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning & Innovation (CETLI).

Qualifications
Duties:
Support MPH faculty in pedagogical innovation
Direct the MPH program Capstone experience. The Capstone is the culminating experience for all MPH students, and it is a required by our accreditation agency. During the Capstone experience, students identify a mentor who will lead them in a public health research or practice project. They take includes two courses – PUBH7080 and PUBH7090 – that are taught by MPH faculty to facilitate the experience. At the end, students present their project in a public forum.
Teach four courses (or the course equivalent of 4 CUs) within the MPH program, including Health Behavior and Theories (PUBH505), Capstone 1 (PUBH7080), Capstone 2 (PUBH7090), and public health electives as needed.
Supervise up to 4 MPH students per year on their capstone projects. Mentor new faculty, as appropriate.
Perform additional duties as part of the core faculty, including mentoring new faculty, sitting on academic committees, and being an academic advisor to up to 15 MPH students per year.
