UNIT DESCRIPTION:
The University of Guam Marine Laboratory (UOGML) was founded in 1970 and serves as a major institution for marine science research in the Western Pacific and Micronesia. UOGML has a strong track record in basic and applied research in ecology, taxonomy, fisheries, and monitoring of coastal ecosystems. Recent research initiatives have expanded UOGML’s capacities in marine genomics and coastal oceanography, with an emphasis on land-sea connections, coastal development, and sustainability in the age of climate change. The UOGML is uniquely positioned to pursue the above agenda given its close proximity to some of the most diverse and unique marine environments in the world.
CHARACTER OF DUTIES:
The University of Guam Marine Laboratory (UOGML) seeks an Assistant Professor in vertebrate morphology to support the UOGML’s mission by expanding our expertise and research of regional relevance. Duties include contributing to the Graduate Program in Biology and providing service to the University of Guam and broader community. Under the general supervision of the UOGML Director, the successful candidate will: i) develop an extramurally-funded and collaborative research program on the comparative biology of marine or insular freshwater vertebrates, leading toward a better understanding of biodiversity in the western Pacific region; ii) curate and contribute to the marine and freshwater vertebrate specimen collection of the Guam Ecosystem Collaboratorium for Corals and Oceans Biorepository; iii) contribute to the UOG Masters Graduate Program in Biology by mentoring graduate students and providing outstanding classroom instruction in Vertebrate Biology; and iv) provide service to the Marine Laboratory Division, M.S. Biology program, University, and the broader Guam community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum: Ph.D. in Marine Vertebrate Biology from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent with expertise in comparative vertebrate morphology, phylogenetic analysis, and specimen curation. Must also have a strong record of research and grantsmanship commensurate with years of experience, as evidenced by recent grants and refereed publications in scientific journals. Post-doctoral experience in relevant research. Must be willing to teach online.
Preferred: Expertise with research applications using micro-CT scanners. Classroom instruction and student mentorship. Experience working and teaching in online learning programs.

Police and Court Clearance: Pursuant to Public Law No. 28-24 and Executive Order 2005-34, applicants selected for a position are required to provide original police and court (Superior Court of Guam) clearances of no more than three (3) months old prior to commencement of employment. Off-island applicants must obtain clearances from their place of residence. Applicants are responsible for fees associated with obtaining the clearances.

Section 25103, Chapter 25, Title 10 of the Guam Code Annotated requires college or university employees to undergo a physical examination, to include a test for tuberculosis (skin or x-ray), prior to employment and at least annually thereafter. A report of such examination must be conducted by a licensed physician within a state or territory of the United States and must be submitted upon request.
Federal law requires presentation of eligibility to work in the United States within seventy-two (72) hours of reporting for employment. Specifically, 8 USC 1324A requires the employer to verify the identity and eligibility to work in the United States of all newly hired employees.
